Lego Rock Band revealed

First shots and info inside
Warner has confirmed Lego Rock Band and here are the first in-game screenshots and info.

"The game, which will allow families, tweens and teens to experience a wild journey to rock stardom where they can "Build a Band and Rock the Universe", will be available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii home videogame console. Lego Rock Band for Nintendo DS will be co-developed by TT Games and Harmonix in partnership with Backbone Entertainment, a Foundation 9 Entertainment studio. All versions are scheduled for 2009.

"Lego Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humour of the Lego videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favourites suitable for younger audiences, including:

Blur: "Song 2"
Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"
Europe: "The Final Countdown"
Good Charlotte: "Boys and Girls"
Pink: "So What"

"Players will become rockers as they embark on a journey to stardom that the whole family can enjoy as they work their way through local venues, stadiums and fantasy locations on Earth and beyond, that mimic the imaginative settings that the Lego world offers. Also continuing the LEGO "build-and-play" gaming experience, players will be able to create their own Lego Rock Band style as they customize their minifigure avatars, band and entourage, including roadies, managers and crew. Lego Rock Band supports Rock Band instruments, as well as other music game controllers."

Whoever came up with this combination of franchises was an utter genius. This is likely to be a licence to print money and good for them.

Can't say I agree, I think it's a little pointless.
You can already create a fully customisable rock star to play the songs as, so what new features will the Lego franchise bring to the game?

Sure, Lego men and instruments are cute, but simply replacing all of the current RB content with Lego versions doesn't seem very original to me.

Wow, that looks amazing. WANT! 8)

WTF! nooo, another lego game. But this might, might work. MIGHT

This has mass appeal written all over it!!

Especially for the Wii I think!!

I don't get it. I enjoyed the LEGO Starwars, Indy, Batman and look forward to the rumoured LEGO Harry Potter. I also like Rock Band 1 and 2 and look forward to the Beatles version. But I have to agree with Dajmin here, I don't see how combining both these successful franchises is a logical move for either camp.

Lego has built it's recent good reputation on film parodies which are fun, light-hearted platform adventures, with family friendly co-op, drop-in, drop out modes. The humour is visual/slapstick comedy, with no speech - how will this work in Rock Band?

Rock Band offers customisation already, so if it's about 'cuteness' why not just throw in an 'Avatar' mode, and 'Mii' mode, to appeal to that 'casual market.'?

What's next? Sack Boy Sing Star? - (actually I'll TM that idea now)

Could have been worse I guess, at least it isn't My Sims Rock Band!

My buddy at TT was telling me about this a few months back and swore me to secrecy... I thought he was taking the piss to be honest

depends on the track list for me.

i love lego and rockband. so i don't see a problem with it. Be cool if the instruments with it were lego themed or even better you had to build them yourself in some kind of customisable lego controller kit.

probably just a coincidence, but i'm going to post this, just in case it turns out to be true and i look like genius...

the guy in the last picture looks a bit like jack white. maybe he's going to be in the game?

It'll be Playmobile Guitar Hero next!

As long as there is a proper Expert difficulty setting, I'm all for this.

While I wouldn't buy this game, I have to admit, business wise this is going to be either a complete flop or a catastrophically great success. Lego being one of the most famous toy brands will raise awareness of the Rock Band franchise for those who are unaware of it and when the kids who play it grow up they'll end up going on to buy the normal versions of Rock Band, or at least that would seem what the hope is. Maybe Lego will make some Mini-Figs to go accompany the game? It would be very stupid if they didn't bother to do something like that because I could see kids all over the country begging parents for that kind of thing.

In theory this is a good decision, but I have doubts in the back of my mind. Then again I said that about Lego Star wars and Lego Batman and they both were awesome games.

If I was 5 years old, I'd probably buy this.

I found Lego Star Wars, Indy and Batman all to be nice games, well made, fun to play, if a bit buggy at times, but this does seem rather pointless.

Lego X-Men. Lego Spider-Man. Lego Marvel, even. All of these would be better games. Rock Band is already out; what will this add? I suppose the only way it would be worth the time would be if it was released for a budget price and had some different tracks, as I assume it'll work with all the Rock Band peripherals.

But considering the Lego people don't ever speak besides the occasional grunt, how do they sing?

Is this for REAL?! I can't believe that people are wasting their time working on a piece of useless shit this will turn out to be! Honestly, I thought game companies could do better than making shit Lego games.

BUT

I could be wrong, this could actually turn out half-decent, but i don't have my hopes up fir this.

I lol'd.
