The
Kiwis had (and have) a different system from that used by the AIF. It is
something like that used by the Australian militia before and after
World War 1. It includes a coloured stripe in the puggaree, or in some
cases, a totally different puggaree colour.
The
puggaree is the coloured cloth band worn on the felt hats, the colours
of the brand identified the branch of service.
The photo (left,
taken 2002) shows
that the New Zealand Army still use the same basic system, even though
some of the colour combinations may have changed as changes were made to
various branches of Service. |
