talk about a one-trick pony. I think i'll be joined by alot of people by saying. CAPCOM have to buy MK. The fabled Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat could be a reality.
Or SEGA, either would be fine by me. Meh. Mortal Kombat has not been relevant for many years as far as I'm concerned. Kill it. Or should I say Finish Him. As much as I used to love Mortal Kombat, I've fallen out of said love with them over recent years. I'd like to see the creators do a brand new 2D Mortal Kombat, while capturing that dark feeling of MKII. What with the recent success of Capcom's Street Fighter IV, I reckon they could get in on the act. The three first 2D MK games were better than all the 3D ones combined.
Ahh, I still remember the day when I was a 12 year old boy. I was down my local arcades, when from a dark and festering corner I heard the words "Finish Him!" - I turned around, only to be confronted with Sub Zero ripping someone's head off in the first MK game. To a 12yo boy, it was the best thing I had ever seen in my life. as long as a good dev gets it i dont care Although I would love to see a Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat game, I cannot see it happening. I thought that the vs DC universe was a step in the right direction though. It needs a re-boot, like many films are getting nowadays... (PLEASE DON'T MAKE A NEW MORTAL KOMBAT FILM!!!!!)
...I hope it finds a new home. Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe actually sold very well when compared to Deception and Armageddon and like the article says...Another developer may be able to revive the series. I would also like to see that, although they're two very different handling 2D fighters. Plus you couldn't exactly have Scorpion ripping Ryu's head off.
I'd still like to see a brand new 2D MK really. With modern technology, they could make it look great. Surely this marks the death knell for Midway - without Mortal Kombat, just what big IPs do they have left? And people can say 'make some new games', but they just aren't in a financial position to take risks right now, and new IPs are definitely risks. all midway had to do is instead of releasing that MKVDC univerce crap. release a new MK shaolin monks game. than release a new deception game. then they will be finaly back on there feet and they can let the series die in peace. Talking about Shaolin Monks, that was a very good 3D MK game. I really enjoyed that title, and it captured the dark mood of the first 2 or 3 MK games aswell.
I'd love to see a Shaolin Monks 2. id call releasing MK a risk. its a joke. anyone calling for a re-release just remembers the snes/megadrive days fondly.
it has such a serious tone for such a stupid game. it belongs in the 16-bit era. wasnt even at home in 32-bits.
mixing this trash with SF would only be tarring it.
they thinks it has pedigree. it was just a phenomenon. its had its day. It really depends. I always preferred SF to MK back in the SNES days because it just felt more natural. MK was all about being shocking and not taking itself too seriously, whereas SF was the franchise for the hardcore fighter.
That said, if Capcom did get their hands on the MK franchise, maybe they'd breathe new life into it. They certainly seem to have done something special with SF4. people with no respect for history are doomed to repeat it.
MK was an awesome series and i think remained fun even in 3D, they tried to mix it up and do different things with it. Sadly it just didn't sell.
Maybe whoever takes it on needs to take a leaf out of SF IVs book and revamp the classic gameplay from 2&3.
If it worked for SF don't see why it wouldn't for MK.
The main reason SF IV is selling so well is because of the nostalgia factor. At tits core its just Street Fighter 2.5 not that that's a bad thing. ^ That's what I've been saying. Make another 2D MK game!
Whether it be stylized 3D characters on a 2D plane, or hand-drawn 2D goodness. Or even do what they did for the past games, use real people for the characters. WHERESMYMONKEY I couldn't agree with you more.. MK vs street fighter! that would be too nice especially in capcoms hands. I shudder to think how hyped that game would be if it was ever made... 8) RIP Mortal Kombat. To buggery me thinks.
They'd have to give some of the SF characters fatalities though. There's no way Akuma and M Bison wouldn't kill everyone they came across. Oh dear! :( Such a shame as it wasn't my fav fighter on the market BUT I had and STILL have respect for what they brought to the table!
I dont see Capcom buying it but if anyone is going to Its either (Not in order):
1. Sega 2. Warner Bros game studio as they dont have any well known titles under there belt 3. Microsoft be good as they would prob re release games over XBox Live AND maybe give Rare to re-boot it.... We could se Mortal Kombat vz Killer Instinct! 4. Activsion could also be good as me thinks they have the rights to Marvel games.... Mortal Kombat vz Marvel?? Didn't think about MS. Now MK vs KI now thats a match made in Hell if ever i heard one. That'd be pretty class.
so long as they either cut out the ultra combos. or made everyone have em. An SFIV type remake of MK2/3 would get my vote. MKvDC is entertaining, but it certainly has some flaws - the main one being that it can't seem to decide if it wants to be a 3D or a 2D fighter, the D-pad and the analog stick each offer different controls, 2D and 3D respectively, which didn't really work for me (though I just play it with an arcade stick in 2D mode).
Ultimate MK3 was the peak of the series, is it coincidence that was the last of the 2D versions of the game? I'd certainly love to see a remake of that.
Edit: Yes, that MK vs KI sounds like a good idea to me as well... if a remake doesn't happen. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I never want to see Mortal Kombat ever again - but no doubt someone'll pick up the franchise. Damn them. I wouldn't mind Namco Bandai getting it, but I don't know, Tekken is rubbish whilst Soul Calibur is the only fighting game I play any more(although I do have the PS2 MK games). i have just personally made an account to answer to u phillips. mortal kombat is the best fighter bak in the snes/genesis days. i have both mk vs dc and i have street fighter . and i have alot of people come round my flat on a sesh and out of the two none of my mates like street fighter, not sayin its a bad game cuz i like it just like i did bak in the day, but they all love mortal kombat ,street fighter is so overrated , i mean wats the deal with the comments after a fight 'thanks for the experience ' n 'great fight' and loads more stupid things they say its for faggits. bring on mk any day cuz mk noes how to finish a fight 'fatality!' mortal kombat 4 eva no more crossovers plz how about a company that hasnt ever touched the fighting genre like rockstar they know how to make dark gritty brutal games n dats how mortal kombat should be I'll buy it. Ł10. No, Ł1! Who wants to club together and buy Mortal Kombat with me :) Great franchise which has just sold 2 million+ copies, so will hopefully be picked up despite the unfortunate demise of Midway.
As for all these Jap loving SF lovers...had a sess. over the weekend, still the same shite but with new animations and better graphics, enough said! I bid 2p. I'm in Smithy...so how much?? :) It ll probably be snapped up by EA I bet... id love to buy this franchise scorpz n sub zero wud kick ryus and kenz no doubt bout it Who wants me to buy this? (Serious question ^^), I could actually bid for it, ..Though I probably wouldn't have any use, as I don't own any Games company or anything, but I could literally buy this. -.-" If i had the means i would.
You could probably then lease the license to games companies to make something out of it.
Or you could always start a games company too. if you have the money to buy the rights to MK you've gotta have a fair amount of scratch. Cut a deal with Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft to put the older games on their download services and watch the profits roll. ;) |
