UK PS3 sales hit 2 million, PSP breaks 3 million

Sony UK boss praises Killzone 2's impact as platforms pass sales milestones
Sony says it has shifted two million PS3s and three million PSPs in the UK, which sound like fairly good numbers to us.

Sony UK MD Ray Maguire told MCV: "Obviously PS3 is a premium product with a premium price tag. Interestingly, because it has sold two million at a higher price, it suggests more longevity of the PS3 because we have chipped away at the top end of the triangle."

Maguire also said that the chart-topping Killzone 2 had proved to be a system seller - and hinted at more Killzone games going forward.

"It certainly has helped drive hardware. I think there were a lot of people out there who wanted something which really showed the power of PlayStation 3 - and now they can see it's a reason for them to get on board... This is a series with a lot more stories to tell."

More Killzone? Bring it on! Though it isn't a surprise to be honest.

Hopefully, now that GG have designed their engine (which took up the majority of the development time) we should see Killzone 3 sooner, rather than later.

I am actually hoping that Sony share the Killzone engine with other developers for future titles. Resistance 3, perhaps? Or even a new Syphon Filter? That would be pretty cool - especially as Sony have been pretty quiet about that series. E3, anyone?

More Killzone games.....wonder what the people who said the Halo series was being "sold out" will make of this.

I'm definitely gonna buy that Killzone bundle when they drop the price of the PS3. Bring it on Sony!

Killzone Battlefront...

Killzone Wars  ?

Fanboy comment alert.

WHO CARES?
Posted by voodoo341
As long as it's not Killzone MMO. In fact if there's either a Killzone or Halo MMO I'm selling both consoles and buying a Wii.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
now that'd be a nightmare. you wouldn't know whos side you were on. it'd just be a big bloody mess. Bit like a warzone really. Bring it on.

Finally some relevant sales figures...

My thoughts precisely. That's twice in the space of an afternoon that you seem to have read my mind. Third's the charm? 8)

As for this part of the fellow's comment: "Interestingly, because it has sold two million at a higher price, it suggests more longevity of the PS3 because we have chipped away at the top end of the triangle."

Does that mean a price cut will appear for the PS3 despite Sony's adamant claims to the contrary? Either way someone in Sony is spouting a lot of malarky.

cant fail but they MUST change the length of the game.
seriously 6 hours if ****ing pathetic i was so dissapointed once i finished it.
4 years wating for it 2 days finishing it :( :(

I have to agree. Halo and KZ should never do an MMO but if they wanted to branch out a la Halo Wars or a KZ 3rd person actioner that could be cool.

I am interested to see how Huxley turns out, that is the premise of that game isnt it, a FPS MMO? I suppose that game will let us know if it is a good idea or not

What difficulty did you play it on? I haven't played it myself, but you should always stick FPS games on a high difficulty to begin with. Halo 3 almost took me 20 hours to finish on Legendary. Granted, I'm not the best at FPS games, but when I played it on normal, I breezed through it.
Posted by Mark240473
It took me just over 10 hours on Veteran (hard) difficulty, which I think is a good length for a shooter. On Elite mode it would probably take me 2 lifetimes! I'm not even going to go there...

Still, I haven't collected half of the insignia's, or the briefcases, so I still have a bit to do. Well worth going through again. In fact, I may go through it on Trooper difficulty because there is a trophy for completing every mission without dying.

PS. Did you complete legendary in solo or co-op mode? I tried legendary after completing Halo 3 on hard, but just couldn't do it on my own! I bet it is quite easy in co-op.
Posted by ensabahnur
Is that still coming out? i haven't heard anything about it since the 360's first year. it just kinda disappeared off the radar.
Posted by ensabahnur
»i did it 4 player co-op on legendary with one person always hanging back at the spawn point. cheap, i know but it works.
Posted by voodoo341
Nothing particularly wrong with an MMO but I think Halo and Killzone have really well defined storylines that would be totally wasted on an MMO. Do something with both that adds to the storyline, develop their universe more. I don't think an MMO would do that for either.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a LBP rpg at some point if I'm honest.
Posted by StonecoldMC
I know what you mean, there are a few games that were announced and then ... nothing (my avatar says hello). I still think this one is coming though, they are supposed to have been having closed betas for it already in S. Korea but when it comes out who knows really.

WOW thats great numbers SONY!!!

2009 is gonna rock for SONY with a fantastic line up of games and a price cut on the way. Loads of my mates have bought one over the last six months. Its really starting to take off now!! It has so much life left in it unlike the other machines that are looking very dated in hardware and are already at rock bottom price.

I'm not sure if that is cheap, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Just a bloody shame none of my mates were into Halo at the time. Damn that COD4!

Solo! Never tried co-op as I'd just got my 360 a month before it came out, so my friends list was barren. It was down to Bungie saying people who've played the previous games should play on Heroic at least. I'd only completed the previous games on normal and Halo 3 on Legendary made me realize I was missing out on the complete experience.

my guess would be 2 years till kz3 - so around summer 2011. it seems that if companies have a fully working engine it takes about 2 years to get a new game out (fifa excluded).

it would be interesting to see another devs use the engine to see how it works in different scenarios, it could turn out to be customised to how kz2 looked.

are GG linked with Sony or could the engine be ported to PC or 360?
Posted by voodoo341
Owned by Sony but I wouldn't rule out anything for the PC.
Posted by shellster2
Are you hoping the PS4 is shaped like a c0ck so you can suck Sony off all day?
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
But whats that in comparison to the wii and 360.

I want to see how all three amtch up against each other. Would stop a lot of squabling on this site. well in theory anyway.
Posted by ensabahnur
unfortunately it would just be in theory. you'd have half the people telling you its all lies and a half page post from Suivaloom detailing how wrong it is and how hes got all the proper figures hidden up his ass. he just needs to figure out how many different colours and font sizes he needs to post them.

I love the PS3 as much as anyone but comments like this do my fecking box in. You do know that its graphics card is based on the nearly three-years-old nVidia G78? No of course you didn't because you're a blinkard, ignorant, f*ckwit...

Completing Halo 3 on legendary on your own is VERY difficult. Suprisingly, the last level isn't the hardest- it's that bloody Cortana level- where you're inside the Gravemind.

Utterly maddening that was. But I only gone 'n' bloomin' done it 'ent I?
Posted by Black Mantis
 Cortana was the toughest though, have to admit there were a couple of sections on that level where I just ran for the exits and prayed for the "doors" to close!
Posted by MrPirtniw
Hoo-rah! And that's all I have to say 'bout that.
Posted by Vyvrtka
I wonder about one thing though. Rigth now the PS3 outsold 360 and Wii combined in Japan thanks to Yakuza 3 and I don't see it mentioned on CVG. But when 360 outsells PS3 in Japan, it's on CVG a minute later. I mean, it sold more than Wii...
Posted by Black Mantis
CVG are owned by MS, therefore such propaganda cannot be posted here. Now go and edit your post accordingly.

PS3 outselling the 360... Nonsense
