Halo 3: One BILLION matches

630 decades' worth of deathmatch played
Bungie has released an update claiming that the one billionth match of Halo 3 was played over the weekend. And who are we to argue?

"Saturday night, while many of us were stuffing food into our faces, plenty of folks were still playing Halo 3," said the team. "At precisely 6:36pm PST, in a three minute and nineteen second game of Infection on Foundry, four players participated in Halo 3's one billionth match."

We wonder if they know, or got a prize for being the one billionth customer?
"One Billion. It's a giant number, one that's difficult to understand without the proper context.

"Our first thought was to put it into perspective by comparing Halo 3's total games played with its predecessor, Halo 2, a title that we are still super proud of, and one that's topped the original Xbox Live Leaderboards since its launch through to present day - over four years of online gaming.

"But there's a problem with that comparison. Halo 2 has yet to achieve one billion games played. As of right now, it's sitting pretty at 798 million total matches played. Surprised? We were."

People still play this? Apparently so.

I couldnt get into this game, When playing online I just thought "whats the point" after an hour online. Much prefer COD4's weapons and ranking up.

Halo 3 for me is easily the most fun ive had in any MP game this generation. What with Forge, Saved Films and of course the legendary 4 man co-op, its a ball everytime I play.

Conrats Bungie some very impressive numbers.

probably because its a more balanced game, everyone starts with the same weapons and the same weapons are available to all players, i like both cod and halo, different games, as is killzone2 online, its quite funny watching people trying to play kz2 like cod tear arsing round everywhere when it pays off more not to sprint everywhere and be more careful and tactical

I much Prefer playing Halo online to COD4. i think its woefully overated. Halos just a lot more fun and frantic. People take COD4 waaayy to seriously.

Although lately i have to say Left 4 Dead has been taking up pretty much all my online gamingtime. Nothing better Vs. mode. TANK SMASH!!!!

Wow. What more can you say?

I do love Halo, I myself have attributed around 1200 games to that number, a paltry amount compared to some I’ve seen on there. It is the most fun I have had online, though the theatre mode has led to a new phenomenon I’ve not been aware of on any other game, having gotten rid of idiots via mute they now take pictures of them either killing you or teabagging you and send them to you along with witty asides such as “U Sux ballz” which is always lovely.

I agree - though I do wish people would stop bouncing everywhere...

Same for me with Left 4 Dead. Although I didn't get on too well when playing as the infected. It kept making me the hunter and I died straight away!

I've found it's best not to play it too early in the evening/straight after work. Full of kids (it's an 18!) just shooting the other players, and occasional random kickings from gangs of the little turds!

To me it just shows how good online co-op can be in games. There's no way I would play through the same hour long segment of a game day after day if it was just single player. The whole game is just so much fun though.

TIMING!

Killzone 2 outsells Halo Wars.
So Microsoft want to show that the 3 year old Halo 3beats Killzone 2 in the number of matches.

It was announced on Bungies website, so nothing to do with Microsoft, I think they’re proud of one of their babies, can’t think why that is. And Halo 3 is only 18 months old, or thereabouts.
