EA Sports titles get MotionPlus support

Company targets precision control system for Wii games
EA Sports titles Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Grand Slam Tennis will be the first of a number of EA games to utilise Wii MotionPlus functionality when they release in June.

"With the new Wii MotionPlus, slicing a winner on Centre Court at Wimbledon or dropping an 8 iron pin high on No.17 at TPC Sawgrass have never felt better," says EA Sports president Peter Moore.

Nintendo hasn't spoken much of its Wii MotionPlus accessory since it was unveiled at E3 last year, but says the Wii Remote attachment, "allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion.

"Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play," it adds.

Expect some launch details soon.

There are bound to be a few moaners on here whinging about it 'not being implemented in the first place' and 'why should I have to pay £15-20 for another attachment?'

Well the simple answer is that, like the DS before it, the Wii was a HUGE gamble for Nintendo. If no one embraced the motion sensing gaming, it would have been an epic fail due to it's lower processing power. Putting this 1:1 technology in from the start would have increased manufacturing costs and inflated the price of the final product.. more to lose if it all went wrong!

Personally I welcome the arrival of the Motion Plus, the Wii has been a big success worldwide and hopefully with this new level of precision it will be taken far more seriously by developers who want to create true interactive games, and not just a load of shovelware party mini-game garbage with badly implemented waggle controls.

True 1:1 motion is an exciting prospect and games such as golf and tennis will work far better because of it.. Twisting to slice, hitting the ball in the direction you swing, registering the height and depth of the swing (no more hit and miss power metres) - if done correctly it should offer the ultimate simulation to these types of games.

I'm guessing there will be an option to play with the Motion Plus attached and another for those who don't own one. With both these titles due in the summer, hopefully others will follow suite.

I'm just praying that EA also make use of the WiiSpeak in this years titles, so I can chat to my mates as we make our way round the golf course. I'm not even fussed if we have to put in friend codes but it would be nice to be given the option of voice chat!

Agreed!

Voice chat would be great with these titles and regards to the WiiMote. I always seen it as just the beginning for motion control and that refinements were inevitable. In my opinion, this is just the birth of this kind of tech used for gaming and that we are yet to see the full potential... by a long shot.

This is strange because you would expect Nintendo to release it first. Capitalise on the pack in with Wii Sports Resort.

I fully expect to see Nintendo pop up nearer the time saying Wii Sports Resort will be released May/early June
