ergo, no deus ex Isn't this what metacritic does every...single...day?? Yeah i can write a list of 50 great games as well Guiness.
Please tell me someone wasn't payed to come up with this. Wii sports above Pokemon red/blue  ... FF XII 12 places above VII? Lego Star Wars @ 23? ICO but no SotC? No Tony Hawk's? WarioWare? Link's Awakening? Outrun 2? PGR 4? No Tom Clancy?
This list is bizzare. Can't even guess how they chose these, some are clearly there just 'cus of sales numbers, some seem related to review scores or nostalgia, but the rest I have no idea. Wait, God Of War over God Of War II????
Are they insane in the brain? Deus Ex was available on the PS2.....
This isn't a very great list. It's mostly all last gen stuff, which isn't going very far back. Is there really a point in listing several games in the same series? At least, I mean wouldn't they have had to do something different from one to the next? Something that changed or improved the franchise in a game mechanics sort of way or better yet changed things for the entire genre or the industry as a whole. And why on earth is Mario Kart #1?
What the hell kind of criteria were they using when determining this list? It's all over the place. No Half-Life.... this list is clearly designed by monkeys. Drunk on Guinness. Oh, top 50 console games... d'oh Seems to be the case. They should stick to freaks and brewing beer. First of all, every single one of these lists is subjective.
The inclusion of Outrun 2 is unexpected but I certainly don't begrudge such a beautiful game being on the list. But did it really have a great initial impact or lasting legacy with games players at large? Sadly not- I think that far more Xbox players were more interested in driving cars to destruction in games like Burnout 3 than playing Sega's great arcade game.
I think that Crazy Taxi, for its influence on mission based car games, or Jet Set Radio/Jet Grind Radio, for its influence on cel-shaded games, would have been more appropriate choices. Sega's Super Monkey Ball could arguably be seen as an influence on the direction of the Wii as well.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune must be an inspiration to anyone making adventure games.
But I am most disappointed that Metroid Prime is not on there. I also think that Lemmings was an inspiration on quite a lot of games including Little Big Planet. Exactly, MP eould have been a great choice. It took a classic 2d game and brought into 3d and did it very well. Having both AlttP and Link's Awakening makes no sense, it is redundant. Having OoT is not, since it brought the franchise into 3d and added lock on targetting. Which I believe it was one of the first to do. And that is still used in games today.
I suppose I don't understand what sort of logic they were using. I think they got FFXII and FFVII mixed up. Or you know they're idiots.
Of course FFXIII may supplant them both in a couple of years. no gta 3?? the game that showd the world how to make a gritty, funny, completly engrosing sandbox game. and as this list was supposed to be for initial impact and legacy the sequels and rip offs this game spawned surley put gta3 in the top 10!!! A "TOP 50 GAMES" list without Half-Life on it, or Deus Ex for that matter, or Thief. Anyone notice how 90% of these are all crappy Nintendo games, great, this list fails...end of... good to see soul cal on there, one of my all time faves.. , 3 was ps2 only in-case any newbies wounder'd how it got from 1 to the most recently released 4.
starfox (lylat wars) should have been higher, also nice to see so many n64 games on there, wtf is pokenom (ninty creation) doin on there, they should make another list of kidy games if they want to include stuff like that.
and i do agree deus ex is marvelous and deff. should have been on the list along with a tony haws somewhere. hope this causes agrrovated coments, bring it on' Pokémon introduced lots of people to RPGs and is a massive success so it should be on this list going by their criteria. Which is probably the reason Half Life and Deus Ex are missing, they're not in the public conscience, they're much more niche but still great. Seems like most of the people reading this haven't noticed it's only for console games not PC. Was Deus Ex any good on PS2? Half-Life wasn't too great on PS2.
FFXII was shite, I'd put VI, VII, VIII, IX, Tactics, X, and even X-2 above it anyday. It must have sold really well I surpose, which is a little surprising. Half-Life was on Dreamcast and PS2 though...
But yes, this list is utter bollocks.
LoZ: OoT at 5 and FF7 and 20?
And the Orange Box isn't even a game. It's just a bundle of good games, but the games are still seperate titles, which is also a bit cheeky 'cos that technically 55 because of the games in the compilation. And the only impact it had on it's own was that it was good value.
Clearly idiots  Deus Ex was excellent on the PS2. They ported it from PC very well, with a nice console friendly user interface and controls and an addition of fmv sequences that weren't in the PC version. I still prefer the PC version but the PS2 version was still excellent. This just further confirms my idea that Guiness gamers edition is a joke. eurgh, bollocks, MGS is the most supreme awesome game ever. Interseting here are some of my favourites
1)Final fantasy 7 2)Zelda:orcarina of time 3)resident evil 4 4)shining force 2 5)unchartered drakes fortune 6) metal gear solid 4
My little gems awesome :P I think it should be top 50 list of games since the 90's not of all time. Oh God, that'll get the fanboys going. But whilst on the subject, are you including Super Mario, Zelda ect in this? Am I the only one surprised that GTA4 isn't on this list? Surely it's one of, if not the biggest and fastest selling games of all time. This list is bollocks...
I dont think they picked the right criteria for choosing the best games. Some of the games are good but others have far better games in the same genre. Half life never saw the light of day as a retail release on the dreamcast it only became availble because someone put it on the net. No Super Smash Bros?!?! Thats ridiculous. Its one of the greatest fighting games of all time. The Wii controls revolutionized the genre as well. Definitely a mistake. OPERATION FLASHPOINT Sputnik, if they had made their choices on the best game in the genre (rather than the first, most famous or best selling according to their tastes as they seem to have done) then I would have picked Crash Team Racing rather than Super Mario Kart, Banjo Kazooie rather than Super Mario 64, Uncharted rather than Tomb Raider and maybe Sonic CD rather than Sonic 2 (even though 2 is great). Metal Slug 3. Terrible list =\
Some games I love, but there aren't enough "Classics"
But too many are so mediocre Halo higher than Goldeneye? Are you kidding me. I stopped reading when I saw that. Totally disagree with this all together. There are so many things I don't get here like how they put Final Fantasy XII at 8 and put the best selling and best rated Final Fantasy VII 12 places below it. Mario kart at 1. Yeah, I agree with that. GTA at 3 though...I do not understand that in the slitest, infact I don't understand how its in the top 50! |
