Lips gets Coldplay, improved scoring

Title update and tracks coming next month
Microsoft karaoke effort Lips is set to receive a score-tweaking system update, along with song packs featuring Coldplay and others.

The Coldplay song pack will be on Xbox Live worldwide on March 13 and will encompass three of Coldplay's tracks; The Scientist, Speed of Sound, and In My Place. Not all totally depressing picks there, then.

As for the system update, that's planned to arrive in March and will provide improved scoring, better vibrato detection and initiate global Leaderboards that will allow players to see how their performances rank compared to other Lips fans, says MS. That's if you're not too drunk at the time of playing Lips to use it, of course.

Extra songs coming up for the post-pub part game also include (we've hardly heard of any of them - must be getting old):

Available Now
Speed Up - Funkerman
How To Save A Life - The Fray
Swing Life Away - Rise Against

Available on 27/2
The Adventure - Angels and Airwaves
Amber - 311
In The Shadows - The Rasmus

Available on 6/3
Hook Me Up - The Veronicas
Lips of an Angel - Hinder

You can a lot of these tracks on the Singstore...

Oh, that means microsoft shouldn't release them on a game that's on a different console, no, that's bad business sense, yes let Sony keep all the songs it has and use only songs it doesn't.

What is means is that Microsoft should try bagging some exclusive tracks instead of copying the competition all the time

You have to remember that singstars been going for a long time, it has alot of the very popular songs along it's games and store.

And most people that this is aimed at won't have a PS3 and this is the only way to access the tracks for them.
Exclusive song tracks are not exactly a system seller are they.

It wouldn't have said that Lips was either

good to know that singstar isn't the only one to get random songs that no-one has ever heard of

No, I'm not sure on that point, as with the PS2 before it, the 3600 is trying to make a dent in the lucrative casual market with party games like this, combined with the low price point it might convince a few people to buy consoles.
But I suppose there is little reason to buy a 360 with lips if you have Singstar with a PS2 with similar songs.

Personally, I love Lips! Best AU$79 I've ever spent on a game. New tracks are released every so often to keep it fresh. I think it's better than SingStar, because of it's presentation and the wireless mics. I'm hoping for a Lips 2 or expansion announcement at E3 - only because I want some more songs and modes.
