Street Fighter IV - The El Fuerte Guide

Can the Mexican contender cook up a storm?
El Fuerte is one of the hardest characters to win with in Street Fighter IV.

Advertisement:
While he is the fastest character, his damage output is the lowest in the cast, which means he has to make three or four right 'guesses' on how to attack for the equivalent of, say, one correct 'guess' from Zangief.

The idea is to overwhelm your opponent with El Fuerte's speed and attack options, so it's hard to defend against him.

Habanero Dash (quarter-circle towards or back + P

The staple of El Fuerte's game. The quarter-circle towards or back causes El Fuerte to run in that direction (with the EX version allowing him to absorb a hit while doing so) and you can then go into his other options. Press LP to stop (good for throw set ups), MP for a body splash (good for cross-ups) and HP for the Fajita Buster (jump into throw). MK will do a small hop kick (which can be cancelled into El Fuerte Dynamite) and HK is a small slide (has to be blocked low, knocks down). MP after a backdash also does a backflip into throw.

Quesadilla Bomb (hold down K, release)

A weird stomach press, this is safe when blocked and also breaks Focus Attacks, so it's a good way of stopping opponents from doing quick Focus Attacks into backdash to deal with El Fuerte's Habanero options.

Guacamole Leg Throw (towards, down, down/towards + K

This move is designed to grab opponents out of the air but it tends to get beaten out by a lot of moves. Try not to rely on it, if you can. The EX version has much faster start-up, so it's more reliable in a pinch.

El Fuerte Dynamite (quarter-circle towards, quarter-circle towards + P)

A fairly standard super that sees El Fuerte moving forward while hitting the opponent. Cancels off his cr.MK, also worth using if you see your opponent whiff a move while fairly close to you.

El Fuerte Giga Buster (quarter-circle towards, quarter-circle towards + PPP)

An incredibly useful super, if tricky to land at times. The best way to land it is if the opponent jumps at you from a certain angle or after blocking certain moves (E.Honda's headbutt, Blanka's rolling attack, etc). You can also connect with this move after landing a Focus Crumple.

Basic Combo: Jump in HK, cr.MK xx El Fuerte Dynamite
Advanced Combo: HP xx Habanero Dash > LP > HP xx Habanero Dash > LP > HP xx Habanero Dash > LP... etc.
