P.S. CVG, "35-percent"? *sigh* Shouldn't it be "35-person"? I hope they only develop for PC/PS3/PSP/Wii/DS just to piss off Microsoft for revenge. Depending on the precise circumstances of the break-up with MS, such an emotional response might be understandable. However, given MS's size and market influence, from a business perspective it might not be in their best interest to publicly spurn MS too much. That's not to say they should kowtow to them, yet the MS market is a lucrative one. If this and that Robot company go back to Microsoft they are officially Microsoft's bitch!
They need to show some dignity! »
Working together as partners in a joint venture with MS is very different from being owned by MS. Business is about making a profit. That is the holy grail of business. If you don't make a profit within a certain amount of time you are out of business. Of course human foibles - such as a desire for vengeance over perceived slights, etc. - can get in the way of purely rational business decisions. Sometimes this is, in my opinion, a good thing as it has at times helped ensure humane treatment and rules are enforced and not just a "anything goes" grab for a quick buck (though that happens too). »»
I see what you saying but if a company sacked you and all your colleagues most people would not be too happy working for the company that laid you off. Saying that, about the making buisness issue it will be intresting to see how they tackle this and if they make their decisions from a personal standpoint or with money in mind.
Either way at least these great developer companies can continue to make great games for Sony and Nintendo if they wish but I hope at least one of the companies stand up to Microsoft to show pride. Then again Xbox and PC are all they know how to work with (I know Microsoft don't own PC's but alot of the games are published by Microsoft, narrowing down their choice in publishers.) so it will be intresting to see how they manage with diffrent programs, hardware etc. »»

Yes I think it may have been Microsofts way to stop MS and Ensemble being dependent on each other. That's probably why they're working for MS because MS hasn't really sacked them(they're still paying them for their work) there just their own party now. »»»
Edge has a better article regarding the Ensemble situation, I suggest you read it as you'd know Robot will continue to support HW and AoE, in addition to working on a original IP for MS. Them game studios are like weeds. You cut one down and two grow.
Good news though. To the guy that said they should make stuff for PC but not 360. yeah that'd really hurt MS. making games for thier biggest platform thats interested in RTS but not the 360 which doesn't give a toss.
Yes that'll hurt them. lol. |
