Sony, Nintendo silent on wireless lawsuit

Firms offer no comment after company sues for patent infringement on handhelds
Both Nintendo and Sony have refused to comment over allegations that they've infringed on patents regarding the wireless connectivity of their handheld consoles.

Plano, Tex.-based Wall Wireless LLC is suing Sony and Nintendo over a patent pertaining to wireless communication technology, allegedly infringed upon by tech in the PSP and DS, and particularly the communication between real-time online games such as Mario Kart DS and WipEout Pulse.

Both companies told CVG they were unable to comment on matters of an ongoing legal matter.

The filing, acquired by Edge, states: "As a result of Defendants' infringement of the '086 patent, Wall Wireless has suffered monetary damages that are compensable ... by no less than a reasonable royalty."

“Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing Real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet,”

How incredibly vague, they're also trying to sue Nokia.

The idea of downloading software to a device with no hard drive is not new. In fact, 20 years ago that's how computers worked, just downloading from disks and cassettes instead of the net. Taking out the hardware doesn't change the basic premise, does it?

In that same way, the Post Office could sue the ENTIRE INNERWEBS!11! because the idea of sending text and pictures from one place to another via a writable medium was something they spearheaded.

If Sony, Nintendo and Nokia have any sense they'll just hold out until the company can't afford the lawyers any more :)
