Kelly Jones spoke to MTV News in an exclusive interview last night at a gig to celebrate the launch of their greatest hits album A Decade In The Sun.
The Phonics were on a high playing to select fans that had won the chance to see them rock out at Riverside Studios in west London, a venue where the guys played one of their first ever London gigs in 1996.
Our very own Laura Whitmore hooked up with Kelly and Adam Zindani backstage to find out what the guys were up to on tour and to clear up a rumour about a certain collaboration.
Oasis have admitted to teaming up with Ricky ‘Hitman’ Hatton for a Christmas assault on the charts and it had been reported that the Stereophonics were set to join forces with Joe ‘Pride of Wales’ Calzaghe to go head to head…
LW: Now, you’ve probably been asked this a lot over the last week but what is the truth about a possible collaboration with Joe Calzaghe for a Christmas Single?
KJ: Nothing, we read it in the paper…Last time I saw Joe Calzaghe I was playing a charity five aside football match about eight years ago, and he wouldn’t pass the ball and nobody would tell him to pass the ball because he’s fucking hard, so all I know is that he’s very greedy in football and he’s nice fella, and he’s undefeated. So no I don’t know anything about a Christmas song
LW: Well you know that he’s a fan of MTV News so would you consider bringing out a Christmas song with him?
KJ: Sleigh Bells?
AZ: Depends how hard he asked I suppose, if he got hold of us and said you will write one then –
KJ: Apparently his old man is writing the lyrics, Enzo
AZ: So all we have to do is write the music then
LW: So we can make this happen then?
KJ: We could make it happen yeah
Decade In The Sun - Best of Stereophonics also contains two new tracks and is out now, check out Laura's Live Review here.
