First details on Fallout 3: The Pitt

New weapons and quests in the steel-making industrial zone emerge via OXM
The first details on Fallout 3's second DLC pack, The Pitt, have arrived via the latest UK Official Xbox Magazine.

The Pitt takes place in Pittsburgh's steel-making industrial district, described by OXM as a "stunning dystopia that's unlike any other area in Fallout 3's world".

The Pitt consists of a large 'dungeon' area, an abandoned steel yard, as well as a settlement divided into two halves; Downtown, occupied by slaves, and Haven occupied by their masters.

For the first time players will be able to interact with Raiders other than by fighting them, says the mag, and one major quest has you taking on the role of a slave, investigating rumours that the Raider boss has found a cure for mutation.

Side quests and unique items are promised, naturally, including the fearsome-looking Auto Axe, which a bit like a chainsaw crossed with a Black & Decker hedge trimmer.

The Pitt is due for release in March.

Check out shots in OXM 44 on sale now, which also holds reviews of Halo Wars, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and Street Fighter IV among others. Hit this link for more details.

Blimey! In spite of buying it on release day, I've not even got round to Operation: Achorage yet!

Good news though; I could happily play Fallout 3 for years. Given the massive amount of on-disc content, its one of the few games where DLC seems acceptable.

Awesome. Sounds even better than Anchoridge and that was fantastic.

Still Games for Windows Live? Still no sale. I never want to use that piece of shit system again.

Must say i was a little disappointed with Operation:Anchorage, It seemed rather insubstantial and short. I would of enjoyed it much more however if i'd had it to play before I'd finished the game, the scenic change would of broken up the dystopia brown and grey nicely.

But hey. More Fallout. Who's really gonna complain?

games for windows live is shite....there should be a world wide pc gaming vote to abolish it...no gamer can seriously like it....nor do microsoft not accept that we dont have XBOX's!!!
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
i think games for windows live is MS's attempt at standardising online play on the PC. It's an epic failure but not a bad idea.

Still its not like as a PC gamer it'd be the only way to get hold of the content if you really wanted it.

what is wrong with games for windows live? i use it with fallout 3 on the pc and dont have a problem with it. i log on with my xbox username and password which is handy so i can still access all my friends details.

it seems ok to me as it isnt slow, hasnt crashed and was easy to install. i guees the people that dont like it are the ones who like to steal games via torrents.

I just started the first DLC pack last night, and I have to say the visuals were a welcome change, only played a bit of it but it's great.
This I am happy to pay for as even the first DLC looks like it will have a lot in it.

Yep. Cool as it is, count me in as another game owner who will not get the DLC if it's only through "360 for Windows LIVE"

Release it as an independent download or as a "Knights of the Nine" style disc in stores along with the other DLC later, or no sale Bethesda.

Are you calling me a thief?!! What a disgustingly sweeping generalisation to make!!!

No, I do not steal games through Torrent sites, but I do hate DRM that punishes legitimate gamers by slowing down the process of actually getting games working, and having to use Microsofts SHITE matchmaking services in a PATHETIC attempt to reduce gamer freedom and increase Microsoft's control.

Valve has Steam, and it's a service that trounces this one- why? Because after you authenticate your game (Through it's non invasive background DRM)you're free to launch whatever game, and connect to whatever service you want- GFWL forces you to remain in the game's UI to stay logged into Live, which means if a friend is playing another game, you have to exit the game, and load another one (Which, if you don't own a decent PC could take minutes, rather than seconds.) and it's all a damned inconvenience.

Get your head out of your ass and don't tar people with your negitive brush because YOUR perceptions happen to be negitive. Moron.

pfff torrents.

Everyone knows rapidshare's where its at :P

To clarify idon't pirate PC games and even if i did i doubt my PC would run em because it runs using a complex system of pullies its so damn old.

It's precisely that sort of attitude and grossly offensive mass generalisation that is losing companies like EA, Ubisoft, MS and others some of their PC customers. I for one don't get my PC games of torrent sites; I have disposable income after all my taxes and bills are paid each month and thus I buy games legally. Sometimes brand new, sometimes second hand, and often on discount. I flat out refuse to buy the vast majority of games that require me to download and use an online social component that has no bearing on the actual game itself. If it isn't necessary then why should I be forced to use it? As for the games that used limited activations, I won't buy *any* of those. It's the publisher's game, you say? True, and it's my money which they will no longer be getting. It's a lose-lose scenario for both sides but I am not budging from this position. They can all go and burn in the hottest corner of Hell.

well, fallout 3 has no online play and doesn't slow anything down, i didn't even install the games for windows live client after installing fallout 3 as it isn't needed. the only reason to log into gfwl is to get the dlc which is suppose is what the article is about, but not buying this game on the pc is a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

i will give you that steam is a lot better, but valve rarely do anything wrong.

i have to say that pc gamers, maybe not you, but in general do tend to download games illegally, that is why there is all this drm and publishers prefer consoles these days.

You still need to sign in in order to access the online servers to authenticate the DLC and thus authenticate the game and gain access to said game. That process takes time, time I shouldn't have to take signing into an antiquated and unnecessary service for the privilidge of playing my own game that I paid for with my own hard earned cash. ESPECIALLY a Singleplayer game.

I also disagree with the 'Cut your nose off' point, because Fallout 3 is a game that has been dumbed down for consoles- to the point where the X-360 and PC are only seperated by graphical capabilities, but they're exactly the same experience in essence; I'm a PC gamer, but I own the 360 version because GFWL and SecuROM are abominations that I won't allow in my PC. In turn also, both versions are seperated from the PS3, in that the two of them royally shafted and left the PS3 Fallout 3 users with no downloadable content for loyal customers who paid the same as me, you and the rest of the Fallout players out there for the presumed same features as the other platforms. It appears freedom of choice is dead.

On a large basis, DRM has been responsable for most of the piracy of the last few years- it shot to epidemic proportions over SecuROM especially, one of the most invasive, dispicable programs I've ever heard of in that it roots its way into your OS and the only way to remove it is to reboot Windows alltogether, which is simply ludicrous. Invasive potentially damaging worm cluster-like programs like that have kicked off a new wave of piracy, which in itself doesn't excuse it, it's theft no matter what way you slice it- but it goes some ways as to explaining why games like this are pirated.

Also, the reason why publishers prefer consoles these days is because they can sell to a wider consumer base than the PC because consoles are cheaper, thereby generating better profits and therefore enhancing shareholder value- gaming is no longer an artform or a creative outlet in a strict sense- it's a business model.

PC gamers would steal the sight out of your eye if they could. They look on pirating as their God given right for some strange reason. They should all be locked up, 100% of them, for at least 30 years...with no chance of early release as there is no cure for what they have. Natural born thieves.

You disgust me with your sweeping generalised ********. People with no intelligence whatsoever like yourself should be locked up, and have the key thrown down a toilet. Go eat a cactus and enjoy shitting out the spines.
