What a soul-destroying step backwards for him. Poor guy. The insurance on these shops will be through the roof what with the likes of crimbo and Suiv waiting on them to open with a nice little petrol bomb as an opeing day gift. :D I've seen photos of a 'fake' store they created to test some stuff, looked pretty and smartly done. Doubt there will be one near me though.
I agree that all the Apple stores I've been in (UK and US) have always been full of chavs playing on the iPhones. The apple shop in Southampton came in quite usful when my phone ran out of battery and i needed to get hold of the missus.
But i do agree that the mass of testers is probably not a good idea. They successfully put me off buying an iphone.
But on the whole send your 360 back to MS if it gets RROD hopefully you'll just be able to exchange it at an MS store rather than having to bugger about with couriers. How pointless? Do Microsoft sell enough physical stuff to warrant a store completely dedicated to it?
That said, I went in an M&Ms store in Florida - and it was huge too... *shrug* I doubt it'll work like that. If you bought it in-store, then fair enough. But from any other retailer? Nah. Xbox 360 (vanilla codes and various bundles), 360 games, 360 peripherals and accessories, keyboards, mice, other misc i/o hardware, boxed OS, software (for home and business), Zune.
Yeah, I think they've got enough stuff. All the Xbox stuff is directly competing with Game/Gamestation - and chances are they will be at the RRP. I dunno, I just can't see it.
The Sony stores are chocked full of techno gadgets, the apple stores are too. But both of these MAKE loads of stuff. A shop whose wallas are lined with operating systems, and office suite and some keyboards will not attract ANY kind of custom. Haha. I have never been into those Apple shops before just because they look offputting. I doubt I would really venture into a Microsoft one either but maybe it would be nice to see what is there. I suspect there would be one in London if they did a UK store. agreed they dont really sell enough physical stuff to warrant a store, but its more a marketing thing im sure.
probably have an Atari store next Microsoft LOL! Hold on mate...you arrival needs to be heralded!
Here you go matey! Great, so I can just drop my RROD console off at the store now instead of faffing about sending it away. Right Microsoft? You know, I like my 360. I like the exclusives. I like Halo and Gears of War. I accept that people like their PS3 and it's exclusives. I'm happy with life. Heh, I'm pretty sure I saw crimbo there with his curly hair and window licking stare...
However, to lump Mogs in with the mere SDF is ludicrous. He doesn't support Sony, he hates EVERYTHING. Except possibly the PC, but even that has its off days. »
Don't forget 'Surface', which will fulfill both a physical product, sales to the well off, and instore marketing all in one go.
In fact, I'd wager Surface computer systems would be the lynchpin for launching Microsoft stores in the first place. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/01/kaz_hirai_laughing.jpg I hope the staff are noy up their own ar$e like in the Apple store. As for Apple selling loads of products, that's a bit of a joke. Oh look a whole row of macbooks. one with 120gb hdd, one with 160gb hdd... i bet they only launched the ipods in different colours so the store looked liked it had more products! (for the record i do own a macbook pro and an ipod before anyone thinks i'm an apple hater. i'm not i just hate the c0cks who think Apple is god - get an f'ing life)
However the MS store has the potential to be VERY dull. Let's go over the the SQL area, that'll be fun. No let's go to the Exchange area... (which after 3 months of opening the store they're still trying to get the b*stard working). Let's hope it's more xbox than .NET »
I think this is more appropriate for Mogs. Well they got enough empty stores to choose from mas to where to open what with all of Woolworths closed now.
Will they have a RROD counter? it would sure be easier than sending the bloody thing off to Germany. They'll only open in the major cities and at best it'll be a novelty type store with it's main use being xmas!!
The prices will all be RRP so i'd be surprised if it attracted any sort of discount compared to other high st retailers selling similar stuff cheaper.
It will create jobs though with shops going under daily and with the deep pockets of MS im sure they'll never shut up shop once opened!! »»
  Quality mate! Although maybe a bit TOO close to the truth to be comfortable!! Knowing Microsoft everything will be vastly overpriced, you’ll have to buy something extra just to get what you initially wanted in the first place, but it’ll be an ergonomically designed wonderland conducive to you doing exactly what they want you to.
Personally I’ll be sticking to purchasing goods via the interwebby where things are much cheaper, though by doing that I am killing the high street economy and pushing us further into a recession. I am such a ****.
The Apple store on Regents Street is nice, but largely redundant for buying products new, you’ll get them cheaper elsewhere so why bother. Mmmm shiny, oh, that’s why. And the Large empty Zavvi on Piccadilly Circus... »»»
PC gaming is dead! Stop rubbing it in. LOL indeed Mogs, Microsoft store! guess it would be amusing for them to open one just to see them forced to close them down again  What makes you think that one of the largest companies in the world would be forced to shut down a flagship foray into the world of frontline retail? »
why keep the store open if noone bothers to go in there, microsoft are better off selling pick and mix  »»
You do know it hasn’t opened yet, and is only in the planned stage, right? »»»»
Sorry Mogs, but I'm sure Microsoft will release an emulator so you can play both your PC classics on the Xbox NxtGen and happily reminisce with tear in eye! :) Oooo... can we get M$ pancakes and M$ coffee in there? I'd love a M$ badge that says' I love M$' like the I love NY' one. Oh man I can't wait to be served by the sexy sales staff in there. Will it run by geeks looking like Mr.Muscle? Love it! Gimme Windows and gimme it now! Yeah, will be good to go down memory lane for a few brief & beautiful moments before I'm asked to deposit some more MS points or the thing red rings. Ahhh, what cherished moments they will be. Yeah sounds great....maybe even get them to get it to produce the "Blue screen of death" coupled with a lovely stack dump that requires a hard reset... ahhh the memories! I just hope they include avatar support because that's what those old classics were really missing.
Meeemories, in the corner of my miiiind. Misty water coloured memorieeees.... »»»
yeah i do, and it's a bad plan. do not want! »»»»
You do....now I do! :D Yep, avatars were a glaring omission, so rest assured they'll be in this time...let's hope they remember that much loved mup.sys system hang as well!!
* brings a tear to the eye as I search for an ERD * »»»»»
You two are like the gaming versions of the Chuckle Brothers, bravo! pffff i suppose it will be a nice seedy little hole for all you weirdos to go to when you are cheating on your wifes, girlfriends or boyfriends(marty). That's hilarious. You truly are a comedy genius.
I was going to say why bother opening stores as like say Sony centres (no I am not picking on Sony just using their chains as an example), usually you could buy the goods cheaper 3 or 4 shops down (true for the locations I have visited anyway). A total waste unless all these comapnies either drop their prices in their own stores or offer a damn good loyalty program. What other reason would they have to open it? To sell things, I think not. They're a massive company why would they want to waste their time with something trivial like selling their products? |
