How come the torrents of Genji and the like are all 4-5GB then... Sounds great. I've not bought many blurays yet, but would probably buy more if they had cool movie related games on disc too. I would definitely buy The Shining if it had a tricycle mini game ;-) Unless I'm being thick. I don't understand. Does this mean a game movie tie-in like Ironman would also have the full 1080p move and DTS sound included with the inevitable rather mediocre game. Do SONY then need to distibute a Movie only Blu-Ray and a game/movie hybrid disc? Who would want to play sh*t games like Transformers or Ironman anyway? Waiting for Sony to capitalise on this idea. Stranglehold did it a while back, can't see why movie tie-in games couldn't have their movie released with them. Although this would have to be well after the game and movie launches, seeing as games come out before its in the cinema even. So you'd have to wait until blu-ray / DVD release time to do it. I don't see why people are uploading ps3 torrents. We can't do much with them yet =P
Although I am able to play PS2 ISO's on my backwards compatible PS3. Good times Unlikely, probably just another idea for utilising space.
I imagine they were exaggerating when they mentioned how much space is taken up tbh.
It's a cool concept but how well could it actually work?
It can only really be applied to Movie-to-Game releases. So taht suggests that any movie based game will miss it's market as it will either A. have to be released as the DVD/Blu-Ray general sale is out, or B. Get a re-release run with the Movie/Game on the same disc - people would hang on to their cash so they could get movie/game for the same price.
Surely though, there would also be a compromis in quality? Perhaps the movies menus would suffer and it may not perform as every other Blu-Ray? Or the game might need a bigger install?
One way or another, something will hinder this concept. Right, this is what gamers have been desperately clamoring for. Know that you mean, I think they are just doing it to show that they can.
Ooh, didn't know PS2 ISOs would work. Do you have to burn them to disk? Not that I condone piracy of course I'm guessing it would be a DVD quality film and not HD. Depends how much space the game takes up. There might be space for an HD movie on there as well.
However, I thought it would be more useful for stuff like cut scenes. Live action parts (like C&C does), or HD CGI scenes in the middle of games (like Square Enix likes to do).
Interactive movies on the cards then. Like those adventure books you used to get, now you can choose how the story goes. Could be good, but very limited appeal in the long term. I'd rather they used all of that space for extra content. Nobody picked up on the most important factor yet... Price.
You're basically going to be buying a full (most likely new) Blu-Ray movie, plus a full new PS3 game.
I'm sure they wont just take those two prices and add them together for a total, but there will definitely be a premium on it compared to just the game on its own.
Fine if you want both the movie and game, but for people who'd rather just have the game, there's a clear choice on which platform to buy it for if Sony are going to force it into a bundle... Ooh, now that would be good. "Fighting Fantasy" type films. hmm I'd be more likely to buy the more expensive blu ray version of say spiderman 3 over the dvd version if it included the average game. but only if the price of the disc wasnt priced any higher than normal new realease blu ray movies
hold on a second....ghostbusters bluray perhaps along with the game? It's not piracy if you own the game. You're just backing it up
You need SwapMagic and a backwards compatible PS3. Luckily I had both. I used to use SwapMagic to play backups on my ps2. You can find a guide if you google it =] Maybe, maybe not but a good idea none the less, lets just see how it pans out. The price of Blu Rays right now is stupid.
In HMV yesterday, I could buy Transformers or Iron man on DVD for £5-6 and on Blu ray £19-22!!
On DVD they were on offer, but not on Blu ray. If they want Blu ray to succeed against people buying DVD's, then the pricing needs to be more aligned.
Id buy Ghost busters the game for £50 with both films thrown in !! wish people would stop moaning about the price of BR films.
if you have enough to buy a 1080p set you can afford £15 for a decent film thats worth keeping. its not like there are tons of AMAZING films out there. unless you have a special interest in nothing. blu-ray is a specialised thing, not someone you would buy random films for and hope they were decent.
you wouldnt spunk £40 on a random game would you?! if its worth having, its worth the price. DVD's were more expensive than video tapes when they first came out (if I remember correctly they were in the region of 15-20 quid). Shopping around I can find transformers BR for £13 delivered http://www.gamestation.co.uk/PS3/Blu-RayMovies/~r409887/Transformers-The-Movie-BluRay/ cheaper if you don't mind a 2nd hand copy. Here's a Sony based news feature we've all been waiting for.... http://www.bitterwallet.com/sony-plunging-further-towards-oblivion :!: *A warning though, it does contain strong language. If the games are always bundled I'll be pissed. I am not being forced into buying am ovie along with a game. If the game is seperate then great...kind of. I don't see the point. Well its great to see that Sony are Finally treating the PS3 as a Games Machine and not some kind of dodgey Media hub that happens to play games too.
Oh Wait.. ****. Woah you really are showing your age. Or lack thereof. So in over a hundred years of cinematic history there haven't been that many great films. The problem with Blu ray is that the benefits aren't half as significant as they were in the move between VHS and DVD the picture quality is only noticeable on TVs over 40", older movies often look no better than upsaled discs.
Only an idiot would bother buying something for twice the price that only offers a slight improvement on the original.
Also for your information DVDs were even more expensive than Blu ray when they were first released in 1994 original DVD copies of Apocalypse Now went for £40 - £50 quid. I don't think I'm an idiot for paying twice the price. I'll pepsi challenge any new or old upscaled dvd release on my 42" and win, any day of the week. And Casablanca on blu-ray is one of the best restorations I've ever seen, so in my opinion, if the source material is there in good enough condition, you can remaster to a truly fantastic standard.
And none of my dvd's can output in 7.1. If I can afford the tv and the sound system, paying between £14 and £20 is comfortable for me. And that price will only get lower with time. seen many great films. not many id want to have a copy of to keep forever. i.e. spend money on. once youve seen it, thats it. only a few are worth keeping and rewatching.
such as dirt harry, ronin, goodfellas. maybe the original bourne. i only buy AAA films. so when a really amazing one does come along its worth spending a few extra pounds on. a DVD collection isnt special. most of that collection probably exists because you found all these bargains. BR is something special to buy.
only a cheapskate would buy inferior products cause genes make them seek out the best bang for their buck. BRs "cost twice the price" but thats of an old technology. are you thick? you even state that DVDs were £40-£50 when they came out. so blu-rays are a bargain!!
unless you have a 1080p set, stick with your trampy DVDs - cause you wont notice a difference anyway!!
if i buy a performace car i fill it with super. if your going economical, buy a standard petrol or diesel car. Two points, 1-how come PS3 games are 30-40gig in size when their 360 versions fit on a 9gig DVD? and 2-how can they fit a 1080p movie in the remaining space? :? Many reasons. Main ones being:
a) The BluRay drive in the PS3, in comparison to standard DVD drives, has a very slow read speed.
To compensate, most of the data is copied to multiple places on the disc so that the laser doesnt have to move too much. This brings it just about up to speed with DVDs - which is why there is no difference between loading games on 360 and PS3 (although PS3 fanboys will fight you to the death on that subject lol)
b) Mostly, developers dont compress anything. Whether or not this is at the request of Sony to make the whole 'Next Gen games REQUIRE this much space' argument work (..it doesnt, as you've found out), or if they just feel like they don't need to because they have the room for it, nobody will ever be sure. But either way it's lazy programming. Have we agreed that SVD_grasshopper is K109 yet? Because I remember K109 talking about his amazing super car filled with super unleaded a few months ago just like SVD is now. 1080p rips of bluray films are about 10-12gb, and i can assure you theres no quality loss on the rips of just the movie from a blu-ray disc, the quality is 100% of the original blu-ray disc, its all the extras that take up the rest of the space on the disc.... can assure you its full hd cos my viera flashes up that its 1080p input...
anyone complaining that people are cheapskates and that if you want the best you should pay for it, arent these the same people that go on about psn being free and that xbox live is overpriced, its the same arguement, one just does the job and the other has all the bells and whistles, just like dvd and blu-ray..... 8) Nah - Dead Rising with Dawn of the Dead Call of DUty 4 with Black Hawk Down Fallout 3 with Mad Max
I love this idea (as a gamer AND movie lover), I really think it's brilliant. I only put super in mine too - or Shell's V-Power to be precise.
I assure you I am neither k109 or svd_grasshopper however. I'd have jumped under a bus if I was. They are one and the same person though - just as tam is crimbo. No, just the two Fast and Furious films, eh.
Er...now I know you have a "special" relationship with your PS3 but don't convince yourself it loves you back! Tokyo Drift was actually pretty darn good (IMO). I'll give you that the first was a poor 'Point Break in cars', and the second was a painful mess and only slightly more enjoyable than a Reggae Reggae sauce(TM) colonic. Compression. Or lack thereof. Developers can utilise more space on the disc for higher quality sound and (If an exclusive.) better graphics by not choosing to compress video and audio. The main example of this would be Metal Gear Solid 4, which has some of the most outstanding audio visual performance I've ever seen and heard in a game. Because the X-Box often uses Dual Layered DVD, it reads faster, but the files are often compressed to save space. that'd give new meaning to the term "ring sting" This is an intelligent marketting ploy by Sony. Combining the popularity and sales of blu-ray movies with the underwhelming performance of their games.
I bet if/when they go ahead with this they'll start claiming that movie tie-in games sell more than the 360 counterpart when the majority of people will want the movie not the game. |
