New Transformers game revealed

Movie tie-in 'Revenge of the Fallen' breaks cover
Activision's revealed a new Transformers game that'll tie-in with the latest movie. Who saw that one coming?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - let's hope it's better than the first one - is a third person action title that'll chuck you into the centre of a global battle where "every second and every choice makes the difference between mankind's salvation and annihilation".

Combining "robot combat with arcade-style vehicle sequences and flight-based levels", it'll also have multiplayer modes.

"The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game lets gamers step into the shoes of the Autobots or Decepticons, select any available mission and pick from the largest, most diverse range of playable Transformers - each with their own distinct abilities and weaponry," says the publisher.

"Set in unique environments across the globe such as Cairo and Shanghai, the game allows players to instantly switch between vehicle and robot modes as they drive, fly, fight and blast their way through intense, pressure-packed levels. After engaging in single player action, players for the first time ever will be able to go online and battle friends in all-new multiplayer modes."

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is currently in development at Luxoflux for the 360 and PS3. The PC version's being handled by Beenox Studios, while Krome Studios is doing the "distinct" Wii and PlayStation 2 versions.

Two completely different titles are being developed for DS by Vicarious Visions, allowing players to take on Autobot or Decepticon-specific campaigns.

In addition, "a unique, fast-paced action arcade title" is being developed by Savage Entertainment.

No release dates were mentioned, but seeing as the movie's out in June you can pretty much bet on a similar launch period for the game.

We should have some screens soon.

lets hope its better than the first one indeed. that was one of the biggest piles of shite i'd ever played. infact i'm sure the game gave me motion sickness by the way the screen swung about when playing as Optimus Prime in robot mode.

and why doesn't someone give us old buggers a gen 1 game. bumblebee was a bloody vw beetle, not a camaro

Another rushed movie cash in, which will evidentally sell better then any unique, innovative and actually fun game such as Okami :(

The last movie tie in was one of the worst games I've ever played.

Speaking as one of the biggest TF fans you'll see here; the first was easily one of the very worst games of all time, and now it's being sequelled by the same tossers that messed up the first one- It's Transformers, it's a simple concept- big strong robots with weapons and alt modes blowing shit up!!! HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO MAKE THAT GAME?!!

Sod the game. I want to see the movie.

I watched the first one a week before it's release as they were doing pre-screens a week in advance. I took my son to watch Transformers later on. He will always remember that Transformers was the first movie he went to see at the Cinema. I was determined to make sure Transformers was his first :)

I know. The last decent Transformers game was Transformers Armada on the PS2. The problem is, while Activision still holds the rights to produce Transformers games we'll never see a decent one being released as the publisher never gives the developer enough time to create a great game. Activision is all too keen on getting the game released in time for the movie just so they can make a few easy bucks off the back of the film.

Thank god we've got developers around like Starbreeze who know how film tie ins should be done (Chronicles of Riddick).

I remeber when I visited London for a private screening at Paramount's offices (courtesy of a CVG competition, here you go Voodoo some ammo for your conspiracy theories). They had the game playing on a few booths I had about 1 minute's play before walking away from the console in disgust.

I'm sorry to say for me at least this game does not sound much better than the first, but I hope to be wrong.
