lol, it got an 8.7 from GT. Whoa, looks like you really don't agree with the majority.

I think I'll be passing on this one anyway. I'm not sure what it is but I lost interest in the Prince of Persia after playing the Sands of Time. The visuals do look nice but the characters look frigging awfeul I was expecting this cos there were a few previews that said it was awful.
It seems a few mags/websites got reviews in before everyone else did, and as usual when that happens, gave it high marks.
Just wait people, I reckon there will be a few more reviews like this one. i dont like it
i am a man of constant sorrow 6.6? Bloody hell!
I thought all the dev diaries they produced about combat and environments would make this game excellent, environments sound good but combat obviously doesn't.
Shame
Saying that though, I searched on Wikipedia and got some positive reviews soooooooo The three reviews on IGN from their US, UK, and AU reviewers gave it 9.3, 9.4, and 8.7 respectively.
Like someone above said I totally lost interest after Sands of Time, but I do think I'll be giving this a look. I've disagreed with CVG on a number of reviews. Fable 2 for instance, is one of the most annoying and shoddy games I've played in years in my humble opinion. i doubt very much it's a 6.6, basically if you can handle the fact that it is meant to be simple so that you can enjoy the experience, you'll bump the score up by 2.0 ... most places have it down as 9 or 8. not that it matters, i'll be playing this in 10 mins and see what i think. i wouldnt really let this review decide for me  when will developers learn ...to make a great game perfect it needs tweaking, really nit picking and polished to mirror shine..not completly taken off the rails and turned upside down. i could have dealt with some new gameplay elements if they iontergrated nicely with what was already great gameplay
i loved tht old pop series, this game seems to have torn out the key elements that made them great.
i have come to expect this from ubisoft now...theye going down in my books game by game..look at far cry 2, it was a joke... you suck balls cvg, this game is ace This review is a joke from top to bottom. You can't "die" in any game. For not being able to die, you gave this game a 6.6? Are you completely off your tits? The whole review was 18 paragraphs of venting about how you can't die and always win (umm... doesn't like every game in the universe allow that?) and 2 paragraphs of the good stuff.
Frustrating combat Lacks any real challenge
Am I the only one who senses a sort of a contradiction here?
Well anyway, I guess the damage is done, nothing to mend that. Too bad they let angsty teens to review games these days. dudes don't worry. i just played it for 2 hours straight and it's ****ing brilliant. best looking game of the year by far. i fell loads and just cause it doesnt say you died, doesn't mean you still don't feel like a muff for doing so. it's just there to save wasted time on loading. combat is way better than Ass-Creed. Freerunning is brilliant and elika is pretty buff, in a pixely kind of way. just get it.
Oh and the limited edition is amazing, unreal packaging. I'm going to stop reading reviews soon. What a one sided, opinion based, review that was. 6.6?? What a joke cvg, this game is excellent! I recommend everyone play and give this game a try the plot, gameplay dynamics and graphics are brilliant. Just because you cant die, it doesn' ruin ruin the experience. I love the way the characters interact with each other as well. If ever a game shouted DEMO at me, it would probably be this one. replace demo with awesome and you're on the money. oh and fair play, that was a dire review, agreed with much of what has been said by loads of people in here. criticising a potential award winning game all the way until the last 2 paragraphs, real smart mate, real smart. totally agree with the review. think this game is over simplistic and frustrating I'm with StoncoldMC on this one. I would like to try a demo. Then if I liked the demo I would like a legally binding guarantee from Ubisoft that they didn't ship PoP with DRM SecuROM and limited activations like they did with Far Cry 2. Guess I won't be playing this game anytime soon if ever. Eurogamer have given it a 6/10 today. I've never been much of a fan of the art style for this and I'm getting a bit fed up of games getting easier - particularly due to prevailance of recharging health in most action games. i very rarely disagree with reviews on here but for me this gets it all wrong. Ive played this for about 4 hours now and have been utterly spellbound for every second of it. It looks fantastic, plays wonderfully, the characters are superb (the way they interact with each other is absolute class) and is a game that you can get totally immersed in. You can choose which order you play through the game and this gives a real sense of freedom, it feels in no way as on the rails as stated here. Sadly there will be many people who pass this by due to reviews such as this but honestly give it a go, it may not be the most rock hard game out there but is one of the best games i have played all year. Try it. skyliner, you're dead right. loads of tits are going to say i'll rent it or i'll wait till it gets reduced. fact is, those of you who haven't played it are missing out. it is absolutely shit hot. Got my copy on Thursday morning through the post, and I have really been enjoying what I'm seeing so far. Sure it has its flaws, which game doesn’t? The game is extremely easy in an impossible to die kind of way, and the pathways through the world are pretty clearly marked out for the most part, but this doesn't detract from the game at all.
And what the hell is wrong with the Prince’s voice?? The voice actor portrays the character very well I thought. In fact all of the voice talent I’ve heard so far have done a pretty good job of bringing their character to life. The interaction between the two main characters is brilliant to sit and listen to. The ‘eye spy’ bit brought a smile to my face.
Seriously, give this game a try, and just relax and enjoy it for what it is. Well a review is usually just one persons opinion so it's best to read more than just one. About time CVG had a readers scoring system (although after the metacritic shambles I dont blame them for not having one). You people really take reviews to heart don't you?
I don't see what was wrong with the review. I would would be very disappointed if a platformer didn't let you die.
Anyway, I won't be picking this up - the game has completely abandoned its roots (not to say that it is now a bad game, but it doesn't sound like I'll like the new style). Either I'm being very thick(highly likely) but when you say this is not close to the POP roots do you mean the sands of time etc or the actual very first POP. As I thought this sounded very much like the first ever POP with not many baddies and more puzzles platforming. i was gunna buy it, cos i have the others, and then i read this review and now im nto buying it. yet.
its such a shame that your silly parnter isnt silly andymore, i always lvoed having an anoyying one.
but seriously, the best part of Pricne of persia is oging wrong, and having to go back and do it agian. otherwise its no fun. These guys are so biased and narrow minded. I finished the game and I can honestly say it deserves at least a 9. It might have a few flaws but its still brilliant like MGS4. U would b a fool to listen to this review. I agree that the platforming was more connected in previous games, but u have to accept it is a new experience. It is a bueautiful love story with wit and humour. Character interaction like Ico. This is a british site so they're jealous that the American acting is much better and more laid back than previous. The snobish british acting of Sands of time was one of my qualms with that game. I picked up a copy yesterday. I'm really enjoying it. If i remember rightly. All of the princes recent adventures have been put down to timed button presses platforming wise. The combat in my mind is an improvement over the muggings you commonly recieved in the previous trilogy and it does look bloody fantastic.
Not dieing is not entirely true, as when you are saved you are whisked back to a point where anybody that plays games such as this would generally save anyway.
iTS NOT PERFECT, BUT I'D SAVE IT DESERVES AT LEAST AN 8. This is a tricky one to judge really. A game should be fun, and from peoples comments it must be, but I feel it should have some level of challenge to it. If you can die and won't be punished for it (like Prey) then it's nearly a pointless exercise. You might as well watch a movie where you have to press the next chapter button each time you want to see more. I know it's not quite the same but I can see where the reviewer is coming from. Prey led me and my friend to constantly say "It doesn't matter that we've died because there's no consequence for death". I have a feeling this will be the same. Still I'm intrigued and want to play it.Remember guys a review is someone's opinion. It may be one-sided but at least it provides a different view to those who just overlook the flaws and give it a 9. ON the token of not being able to die, Bioshock must be an appauling game. However we all know this isn't the case. Although Prey wasn't perfect it wasn't a bad game. Same goes for the prince.
I think the problem here is that there are currently two distinct schools of thought on what a modern game should be like. One is as a form of intereactive story telling and the other the more traditional view of high scores and challenges.
I personally think that a good mix of both makes the best games, however i'm definately not averse to playing a game that looks good and spins a good yarn. even if it has done it at the cost of difficulty it's still better than most of the samey drivel that clogs up our game charts. I had a bad feeling about this game. It looks beautiful but at the same time I always felt it looked barren and really boring...
Whats up with this PoP franchise, it always seems to fall short! Shame, I've got no real interest in playing it either....
Give me a realistic looking PoP, I think that will really work, but who am I to say, I'm a graphics whore!!! Back to CoD:WaW I guess...... I was going to buy this game untill I received a call from my frined this morning, he said "dont buy the game, im taking it back now" and what really topped it "Its too easy I did a test where i closed my eyes and jumped a whole section of pitts and obstacles" guess what, he did it first time.
And from that unbiased under-hyped view of a hardcore gamer friend, I am for once im my life having to agree with and CandVG Just for starters I did buy this and I did play all the way through the story... in one evening. It's still a matter of opinion, but any game where I can pick up the phone or go to the bathroom in the middle of a fight without using the pause button, just seems like a waste of time. The wallruns, and the other trademark PoP stuff, is still kinda fun in the beginning but that's when you still think you have any kind of input. They could have let you press a sequence of buttons before going through the actual wallruns and jumps and it would feel pretty much the same.
The story is pretty good and it does look amazing, but compared to the PoP trilogy (especially Warrior Within), this game doesn't deserve the title.
Reviewer was spot on in my opinion. Newcomers will get a kick out of it, but anyone who played and enjoyed the PoP trilogy will fall asleep playing this.. and you can.. just continue playing when you wake up.. seriously no consequence. i bought the game a few days ago.Its easy to complete the game and you cant go back and get all the light seeds because as soon as you complete it the game ends.btw there will be another one cause at the end it says to be continued.... Yep, this review is spot on - unfortunately I bought this game last night for £20 from Argos.
Unfortunately its victim the product of 'the casual ******* gaming mentality' which is sweeping its way through the games industry - there is no challenge here whatsoever - gosh it is pretty, but where is the gameplay?!?!?!
Get your act together, Ubisoft - this game is a big Xmas letdown. I wonder what the hell people are expecting from this game. The graphics are lush, the story and soundtrack are excellently crafted, the interaction between the characters is actually enjoyable.
Okay, so the prince is american- deal with it, it's clear speech and most actors are american nowadays so it doesn't detract from the plot.
The whole idea of this game is to be able to glide through areas gracefully, which means that the controls will need to be simple. As I recall Assassins Creed had simple controls and it was praised, this gets it and its shunned??!?
I've played a large amount of it and it's massively obvious that there aren't any glitches in it. The collision detection is good, there's no obvious draw-distances, there's no slowdown. The graphical style may be love-or-hate, but that doesn't meant that it's a rushed piece of rubbish that warrants a paltry 6/10.
Someone explain how the reviewer is making his decision rationally and not just putting it in the childish "I don't like it" pile.
Silly review. Silly responses in the comments section. silly, silly, silly!
Rant over! I like the game. I played the original trilogy (which went downhill after the first one IMO) and this game is the most fun I've had with my trousers on in a long time.
And am I the only one who seems to think the prince is actually quite funny? Probably... Bravo! This review is spot on! I cannot believe all the other gaming sites gave this game such a high score. I bought the game and I regret it. This game is such a sham. I can't wait to trade it in. Dont like it... Different people want different things from their games, some people might like to be challenged and other people might want to relax and let a game wash over them while they enjoy the pretty pictures and story. One things for sure, you certainly can relax while playing this... in fact you could fall asleep on the controller and roll about through the night and wake up to the game being completed by your ass cheek.
I am a PoP fan so i was looking forward to this game... i tried really hard to like it but i dont and the more i play it the less i like it.
Even if i could turn off the whole 'u cant die' game mechanic i still wouldnt like it though as i dont like the fighting OR the platforming.
Overall i am very disappointed with this game I agree with the reviews score. I'm a couple of hours in and the game's fine for dipping in and out of but you just don't feel like your controlling him.
It's more like the old arcade Dragon's Lair (hit button, watch animation, wait - hit another button - if you die there's another animation and back 10 seconds) than price of persia.
Looks great tho. I bought this in the january sales for £19.99 which is a bargain, i wasnt blown away by it at first, but it is growing on me. At £19.99 its a steal so buy it now! I think i saw it even cheaper on play.com.
This definitely deserved a higher score than 6.6, i think GT got it right personally. No way in hell did this deserve IGN's score either, 9.4 is ridiculous. £17.99 my PS3 version was from play.com and I'm liking it although I have only had a few hours on it as I have got so many titles to get through first. Controls felt a little loose but once I spent some time with it it was ok. Graphics are nice (not amazing but do the job well) in my opinion.
Can't say much more as of lack of play time on it. From what little I have played 6.6 seems a little harsh but thats opinions for you. 8) It's all very well stating that you should play the game for it's own merits. But for anyone that played the last trilogy, even the emo warrior within should see that they've completely nerfed it within an inch of it's life.
First off, instead of presenting an interesting premise they just ripped off the corruption element of sands of time and simplified it to it's base conceit.
The platforming requires just as little effort to perform as Assassin's Creed and is just as benile. Whoever said on this thread that Creed was praised for such needs to go and research again. Creed was much maligned for the exact same reason.
Secondly their is about as much variety in the game as Creed also. Venture to fertile land, beat shit enemy. Press Y repeatedly and then collect orbs. Well done there, really pushed the boat out Ubisoft.
Thirdly it totally missed the point of the rejuvenated franchise of the last gen. This game feels like two mechanics crammed together, flowing platforming for stop start button mashy duelling. What the last games got right was the prince's agility in combat and how it was combined with his platforming. You could fight numerous enemies at once and with skill look damn cool while doing it.
Next gen is supposed to mean advancement, not stripping back mechanics and adding some icing sugar.
What upsets me the most is the fact that this game was created to rinse money out of the casual market and the people who loved Sands of Time and it's sequals. There's no love or care gone into this game and it literally plays itself.
The review is almost spot on, in fact it should have bestowed upon the game a shit load more bile.
This game blows literally and figuratively; it's a cynical piece of target focused bull for people that don't actually like to play games, they just like the software furniture.
Calling the new prince's donkey Farah just adds salt to the wounds.
As an 'experience' it has some nice elements as people have already stated. But 'nice interaction' between the characters doth not make a game, it makes a passable episode of Eastenders. Go back and play Sands of Time and you'll see an expertly crafted game that has an interesting plot and some of the best characterisation in a game this side of Half Life 2.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, unless they are a ****. Oh yeah it was you who reckons everyone loves Assassin's Creed. You sir are what is commonly known in scientific circles and an eeeediot. What do I expect from games? Hmm, gameplay helps, variety is nice, not having to collect ****ing orbs because the developers went to the pub and left the saturday boy in charge would be a ****ing start.
As it stands N+ is a more advanced platformer by far. Just put on some world music while you play it and jobs a good un.
The only good thing that I can say about PoP is it only cost me 19 quid and I'll be trading it in for not a lot less. I only have to live with it being on my played games for the rest of my life.
Any game that gives you an achievement for 'starting the adventure' shows the lack of thought gone into the whole sorry charade.
Warrior Within your crimes are hereby absolved. Oh yeah, one more thing. That concubine bitch made me want to take an industrial sander to the disc. Just thought I'd share. Oh ubisoft, is this the game assassins creed was the demo of or was that big fat gaming bull mud of a game the start of the wrot. were is sam fisher. after taking so long to make this game with so much hype how could they muck it up so badly?
