Customer Communities

What are Customer Communities?

Amazon.com has millions of customers who are passionate about a diverse range of hobbies and interests. You can share your experiences and enthusiasm for your favorite topics with this community of like-minded (and sometimes different minded) people. Customer Community pages provide a home on Amazon.com for thousands of topics, with new ones being added every day by our customers. From the Action community to the Zombies community and everything in between, we probably have you covered.

Find a community that tickles your interest and dive right in! You will find Customer Discussions, tagged products, Listmania lists, So You'd Like To... guides and Customer Images in each community. The community can help you get started with your new hobby, whether it's Photography, Cooking or Quilting. Trying to make a purchase decision? Ask the community for their opinion. Already an expert? Share your knowledge and show off your creations to people who share your interests.

How do I find Customer Communities at Amazon?

Here's how you can find Customer Communities on Amazon.com and get back to those that you find to be interesting:

  • Most popular Customer Communities: The Amazon.com tag cloud page shows the most popular topics of all time.
  • Communities you have bookmarked: Always available on Your Communities page. To bookmark more Communities, click the yellow "Add to Your Communities" button that appears in the top right of every Customer Community page.
  • On every product page: Customer Communities are featured on each product page. Scroll down below the Customer Reviews section and you will find a number of communities that are most relevant to the featured product.
  • Search for communities: You can search Amazon.com for communities the same way you search for products. The important difference is that you need to type in the topic followed by the word "community." For example, try a search for horror community or xbox 360 community. If the community exists, it should be the first result you see, with a link to its discussion forum.
  • Jump directly to a community: Advanced users can jump directly to the community they are interested in. The URL format is:
http://www.amazon.com/tag/foo where "foo" is the name of the community.
    Examples: www.amazon.com/tag/science fiction and www.amazon.com/tag/wii.

Who can contribute to Customer Communities?

Customers like you! Anyone who has purchased items from Amazon.com and is in good standing with other Amazon.com customers can participate in Customer Communities. All visitors to Amazon.com can read current discussions in the community.

How do I participate in Customer Communities?

There are multiple ways to make yourself heard:

  • Talk to other people: Look for the forum and either start a new discussion or reply to an existing topic. Learn more about Customer Discussions.
  • Suggest interesting products for the community: Products that you tag with the name of the topic will be visible to everyone in the community. If you tag a new movie with the word "comedy," it will show in the Comedy community. To add new products to the community, look for the "Add more products to the tag..." section on the main community page.

You can also vote on the relevance of each product in the community by voting it up or down the list of products in the community. Clicking the button lets you add a tag to the product. Clicking the button lets you vote to kick it out of the community. Learn more about Tags.
  • Share photos: You can upload images that the community would find interesting. Show off your best photos in the photography themed communities. Finished your big kitchen remodeling project? Share the before and after photos in the Home Improvement community and you may inspire others. Love your pets? Show off how cute they are in the Dogs or Cats communities. Learn more about Customer Images.
  • Create a list or guide: Do you own the definitive James Bond movie collection? Create a Listmania list and let the other fans know what they're missing. Have you recently put together the ultimate home theater system? Create a So You'd Like to... Guide and get feedback from other home theater buffs. Learn more about Listmania Lists and So You'd Like to... Guides.

How do I keep track of what's new in a community?

  • Conversations: If you start a discussion, or if you find an existing one that you like, you can track the conversation so that future replies are sent directly to you via e-mail. Look for the big yellow button title "Track this discussion" in the right column. You can also subscribe to an RSS feed of all new discussions in a community using your favorite web feed aggregator. Look for the RSS Feed link on every discussion page.
  • Products: Community participants share new products and vote on existing products all the time. You can subscribe to and keep track of new products added to the community using one of our RSS web feeds. Look for the RSS Feed link in your browser address bar or at the bottom of every community page. Learn more about RSS web feeds at Amazon.com.
