Celebrate childhood, creativity and the arts

From Sunday 3 to Saturday 9 October 2004 the National Gallery of Australia will celebrate childhood, creativity and the arts in a weeklong Children’s Festival. Focusing on the national collection and special exhibitions, the festival will feature performances of Shaun Tan’s The lost thing, a collaboration between the National Gallery of Australia and Jigsaw Theatre Company.

Children can enjoy a range of activities including creative art workshops, music and dance, films and animations and interactive tours. An exhibition of large paintings drawn from the collection — Big spooks — has been especially curated and designed for the Children’s Gallery and is guaranteed to engage and enthral audiences young and old.

Children’s Festival activities will take place within the Gallery and in the Sculpture Garden, where children and families can relax out of doors. Each of these events is designed to encourage children and their families to engage with the world of visual art. Most activities are free, but some require bookings on the day. Prere-purchased tickets for The lost thing can be booked through EventBookings@nga.gov.au or +61 2 6240 6504.
