Rosalie Gascoigne: Material as Landscape
4
July - 27 September 1998
National Gallery of Australia
This
exhibition, which was curated by Deborah Edwards for the Art Gallery of
New South Wales, will be at the National Gallery of Australia from 4 July
to 27 September 1998.
It is particularly appropriate for the exhibition to come to Canberra
as Rosalie has lived in the Canberra region since the early 1940s. Her
work is a response to her environment, and is made from found objects
using simple techniques such as fragmentation, assemblage, repetition
and compression. The works have a lyrical and metaphorical relationship
with the landscape, and their simplicity and poetry evokes pleasure both
in the objects and in their associative power.
