IMPORTANT NOTICE: Changes to wheelchair and pram access from underground carpark
The lift that operates between the underground car park and the main entrance level of the gallery is currently being refurbished and will be out of order until 21 November.

Visitors are advised that guests should be dropped off at the road level outside the gallery and proceed up the ramp.

The closest access into the NGA from the underground car park is up the escalator from the sculpture garden.

Visitors who park in the underground car park with prams and wheelchairs are advised that the closest access is up the ramp in the sculpture garden, along Parkes place and up the main entry ramp into the gallery.

Research Library
Temporary access arrangements for registered readers | Monday 4 August 2008 to Friday 14 November 2008

From Monday 4 August 2008 to Friday 14 November 2008 access to the Research Library will be by appointment only.
This is due to construction work for the Gallery’s Stage 1 project. There will also be changes to lift access, due to a lift upgrade, and so visitors will be required to use some stairs.
Appointments must be made at least 24 hours before your planned visit.

Rare books and archival collections.
Availability of archival collections and rare books will be restricted during this stage of work. Please contact the Research Library before your visit if you wish to use these collections.

Major construction work
Due to major construction work there have been some changes to parking and access arrangements.Please see parking advice. Scheduled for completion by 2009 the Gallery’s $93 million construction program will improve arrival and entry facilities, create new Australian Indigenous art galleries and provide the first increase in collection display space since the building was opened more than 25 years ago. Old Masters on long term loan
As part of the National Gallery of Australia’s commitment to providing increased access to the national collection, fifteen of its Old Masters are now on long-term loan to state galleries with stronger collections in this area. Read more
