Moist: Australian watercolours

Bringing together over 90 works, from the colonial period to the present Moist is a rare glimpse into the Gallery’s collection of Australian watercolours. While the title refers to the liquid nature of watercolour, the word ‘moist’ elicits images of an atmospheric, physical or emotional state of being.

Stage fright: the art of theatre

Bill Viola: The Passions

The Passions 2000–02 is a series of 12 works in which Viola examines the manifestations of emotions, through silence, extreme slow-motion, and psychologically-gripping depictions of the faces and bodies of his performers. The exhibition also includes Five angels for the Millennium 2001, an all-enveloping environment of sight and sound. Exhibition admission charges apply; 16 and under free.

This exhibition has been organised by the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.

The Children’s Festival celebrates childhood, creativity and the arts. Activities will encourage young audiences to explore the world of visual arts.

Activities include meeting curators, finding out what conservators do, talking to education staff, making works of art, listening to fairy stories, taking a guided tour, or following your own trail to find out more about the fabulous national collection.

This exhibition will include the recent work of 65 leading international and Australian artists forging new expressions within the fields of glass, ceramics, textiles, furniture, jewellery and metalwork.

The work of those international artists most prominent and influential in these fields is seldom seen in Australia and this exhibition offers visitors an encounter with compelling objects that challenge our perceptions of design, function and the meaning of materials
