Ewing Inducted into Hall of Fame

Patrick Ewing -- and some faces he probably found familiar -- got his much-deserved Hall of Fame induction Friday night in Springfield, Mass. Among those also being enshrined were Pat Riley, who coached Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon, who won one of his two NBA titles at Ewing's expense. Ewing will partly be remembered for not winning a championship, but any Knicks fan who holds that -- a result that is much to blame on John Starks as anyone else -- doesn't appreciate what Ewing brought to the court. Ewing retired as the Knicks all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and games played. Riley got in mostly for his time at the helm of the Lakers, but he's left his stamp on the Knicks and Heat. Ewing's decision to not wear pants earlier in the day was also a good move.

Ewing Makes Hall, With a Bitter Twist

The little children out there may have trouble remembering it, but the Knicks were once good. In fact, they even played in the NBA Finals in 1994. Patrick Ewing did all he could, but when John Starks went 2-for-18 in Game 7, he helped keep Ewing on the Dan Marino list of greatest sports stars to never win a ring.

Last Night's Action: If the Knicks Can't Win That Game...

-Knicks 94, Hawks 82: Eddy Curry scored 20 points -- again -- and the Knicks took care of the injury-riddled Hawks at home. Josh Childress and Joe Johnson, Atlanta's leading scorer, missed the game. Nonetheless, the Knicks. Curry's streak of 20-plus point games, now at 11, is the longest since Patrick Ewing did it in the 1993-1994 season. His play and that of Jared Jeffries, who had 15 points in his first start this season, helped create the rare easy Knicks win at the Garden.

Keep Smiling

What do you think Steve Francis learned last night as he sat on the bench and watched his new team get destroyed by the Heat? Maybe he learned that the “cornerstone of the franchise”, Eddy Curry, has a long way to go before he can be considered a decent NBA player. Maybe he learned that his new coach still uses his entire roster 50+ games into the season. Maybe he learned that there are worse things than playing for the Magic.

Things Are Looking Down

It has come to this, Larry Brown comparing himself to Roy Rubin, a coach of the 1972-73 Sixers- the worst team in NBA history. While the Knicks will not break that record for futility, they are quickly approaching some of their own. Monday they lost 100-72 in Dallas, their tenth consecutive loss.

Knicks Quit Again and Kobe Scores 40

Gothamist has a special request for Punxsutawney Phil. We’ll take our chances on the length of winter; just bring an early end to the basketball season at the Garden. Last night, it wasn’t so much Kobe, or his parade to the foul line, but another case of the Knicks quitting on their fans in a 130-97 loss.

Knicks Preview

The Knicks will definitely have a new look this season, but the question is will the results be different from last season? Eddy Curry is the first real center the Knicks have had since Patrick Ewing left, but we can only hope that the Knicks’ cardiologists are right in letting him play. Antonio Davis will provide toughness up front, but at age 37, how many minutes a night can he contribute? Channing Frye, Nate Robinson and David Lee will bring youthful energy, but youth also means that they will make rookie mistakes.

NBA Draft Preview

Almost twenty years to the day that the Knicks selected Patrick Ewing they will attempt to find their next franchise center. With Kurt Thomas reportedly on his way out of town, the Knicks will have Michael Sweetney and not much else in the front court next year and will be keeping their fingers crossed that Channing Frye falls to them at the eighth pick. If Frye is gone, the Knicks may turn to Fran Vazquez, a 6’11” center from Spain or defy expectations and take prep star, Gerald Green. The Knicks also hold the 30th pick in the first round.

New Knicks Same Result

It's two games into the Stephon Marbury–as–a–Knick era, and though it might be premature to say, it's looking bleak. Eight points his first game, six points last night (though he did get 10 assists). Even though everyone is talking about how a team can't click immediately, Marbury said, "I would never think that it would happen this bad."
