Rockstar and Microsoft have rolled out the inevitable news that Grand Theft Auto IV will "exclusively" use Games for Windows LIVE for its multiplayer component.
According to Microsoft, GTA IV PC will feature upcoming GFW LIVE updates such as "a redesigned game interface, out-of-game client" and the PC version of Marketplace. See what the redesign looks like here.
The news will no doubt come as a disappointment to the many PC gamers who'd rather sand their own face than use Microsoft's service, but that is how the cookie crumbles.
"As we work toward the release of the PC version, Games for Windows Live affords us the opportunity to seamlessly translate the multiplayer console experience for PC gamers," said Rockstar boss Sam Houser of the news.
"The service is a natural fit for the platform and we strongly believe it will help in building a strong online community around GTA IV PC."
The game itself is set to feature not multiplayer modes, a Halo-style replay mode and the obligatory graphical updates.
It's out on November 18. Read our first preview here for more.
Secondly, I want to play the SP of this game and don't really care about the multiplayer. But the fact that M$ have clearly bribed Rockstar so that they can make the dirtiest & laziest port possible makes me resent the whole idea of giving them any cash at all.
So I don't think I will. Look forward to playing the SP though.
What a load of crap, Live for windows is the buggiest POS on the planet, my GOW worked online, patched it, Live wouldnt work, hung on patching it, manually patched it now it wont let me login online saying my password is wrong, when the same fecking pwd used to work and it works if i log into the portal.
Live is the biggest POS bit of software on the PC at the moment, hasnt worked since day 1, every game that uses is riddled with crashes, online issues, disconnect issues, authentication issues, the list goes on and on
Oh and CVG, cnat believe you link to that crap preview article by Mike PS3 fanboy Jackson
"Mike PS3 fanboy Jackson"? Unless he's radically changed Mike's an old school Nintendo fan
Not that I care as I have the 360 version but would of been cool if it'd use that cross platforming play thing...not that I really play the mp but it'd still be cool knowing it's there for when I do.
well as far as i remember hes working on PS now, id know more of course if they hadnt removed the original comments of that preview  regardless of where the feck hes working that preview is a disgrace
Couldn't give a toss about the multiplayer element really. Only want it for the single player story.
I am disappointed about the GFWL thing though. I've had issues with both Gears Of War and Viva Pinata due to the crappy GFWL. Also you can no longer trade GFWL games in at Gamestation it seems, so I guess this could be a crackdown on second hand/pre-owned sales. Which is shit.
Lose GFWL, please. It's not necessary, a pain in the arse, and doesn't work. Steam and X-fire also blow it out of the water.
I only wanted the multiplayer, there's no point buying it now. Single player seem's a little dry and overdone, how many time's can you buy the same game and play it with some enthusiasm.
