With a readership of 8.7 million, our five national brands reach 18% of the UK population and are supported by a strong digital presence.
The Nationals division publishes three UK National titles (the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and The People), and two Scottish Nationals (the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail). These are complemented by a portfolio of digital and other activities such as events, exhibitions and awards.
Developing our digital presence
During 2007 we focused on developing our national titles' digital presence, with improvements to content and interactivity. This resulted in growth in audience figures and revenues up by 56% on 2006.
The Nationals division comprises two operating businesses:
Richard Webb, Managing Director Mirror Group, is responsible for the commercial functions of Mirror Group. The Editors of the three UK National titles (Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, The People) report directly to Trinity Mirror Chief Executive Sly Bailey.
Mark Hollinshead is the Managing Director of Scottish Daily Record & Sunday Mail Ltd.
National Readership Survey
The 2007 National Readership Survey revealed that the Group's national titles are read for longer than our key competitors, an important measure for advertisers.
Award Winning
The success of our Nationals was recognised through numerous industry awards during 2007. These included:
  • The advertising department won two awards at the Media Week Awards for their work on the John Smith’s People’s Race Campaign.
  • The Daily Mirror’s Eva Simpson scooped the award for ‘Showbiz Writer of the Year’ at the What the Papers Say Awards.
  • The Scottish Daily Record & Sunday Mail Limited was voted ‘Media Company of the Year’ at the Scottish Media Awards.
  • At the Scottish Press Awards, The Daily Record picked up the awards for ‘Scottish Newspaper of the Year’, ‘Scoop of the Year’, ‘Journalist team of the Year’ and ‘News Photographer of the Year’ while the Sunday Mail won the ‘Young Reporter of the Year’ category.
