THE DARK KNIGHT
Uncompromising operatic tragedy commingles with a modern-day sense of paranoia, distrust and suitcase-bomb terrorism in this layered action epic of heroism, sacrifice and violence. The latest movie adaptation of DC Comics' Batman surpasses any screen version of that character so far.

MAMMA MIA!
Believe it or not, subtlety was once a crucial element in great movie musicals, something this splashy, frenetic and loud Mamma Mia! totally does without.

HAMLET 2
A hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival, this loose-limbed satire of theatrical ambitions, midlife crises, inspirational-teacher movies and Middle American values stars a very funny Steve Coogan.

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED
Tarted-up and watered down, this feature-length adaptation of the classic novel suffers from condescension as well as condensation.

PARAMOUNT
Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in Atari, a biopic about Nolan Bushnell, who created the early videogame system as well as the game Pong. Brian Hecker (Tribeca entry Bart Got a Room) wrote the script with Craig Sherman, and DiCaprio will also produce for Paramount.

WARNER BROS.
Guillermo del Toro was confirmed as the director of The Hobbit, New Line's two-part adaptation of the prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Del Toro will shoot the movie in New Zealand, working closely with executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. New Line will manage production, with Warner Bros. distributing domestically.

UNIVERSAL
Sienna Miller will star alongside Russell Crowe in Nottingham, director Ridley Scott's retelling of the Robin Hood legend from the Sheriff of Nottingham's point of view. Miller will play Maid Marian, who in this version of the tale is involved in a love triangle between Robin Hood and the Sheriff. Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris wrote the screenplay for the Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment project, produced by Brian Grazer.
