Access and enquiries
Only a small proportion of our collections are on display at any one time but there are other ways of finding out what we have.
|
Virtual access
At present, only the Ceramics and Glass collection is completely digitized but many select groups of objects are featured elsewhere on this web site, particularly in the Exhibitions, Learning and Picture Library sections.
Study access
Serious researchers can make an appointment to study objects not on display. Appointments have to be booked in advance and the Museum reserves the right to temporarily close access to some collections.
Phone and email enquiries
Museum staff can answer enquiries about the collections and London’s history. The Museum receives hundreds of enquiries a week and does not undertake detailed research for enquirers.
Object identifications
If you would like to bring in an object for identification, contact the Museum to make an appointment. It is not always possible for Museum staff to provide object identifications via email. Objects more than 300 years old should be reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
See the frequently asked questions section for further information about access, enquiries and identifications.
