Air Liquide Australia Limited
Paper Industry

Air Liquide is currently a preferred partner of the paper industry in which we constantly strive to reduce production costs while protecting the environment.

Air Liquide has unique expertise in three clean oxidizers: oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide. We offer solutions for improving bleaching, effluent treatment and the liquor recycling process.

Our experience in the design, construction and operation of cogeneration units allows us to improve existing power production plants and to develop new plants to reduce electrical power costs.

Paper Pulp Bleaching

  • Delignification using oxygen reduces the amount of lignine in paper pulp. It also reduces bleaching product consumption and the amount of waste processed by the water purification plant. Using oxygen to extract alkaline (Eo) improves extraction efficiency while decreasing bleaching agent consumption.
  • Ozone bleaching
Ozone is a very selective and environment-friendly bleaching agent capable of economically achieving excellent whiteness, while reducing waste production.
  • Hydrogen peroxide bleaching
Hydrogen peroxide is an environment-friendly bleaching agent which can be used for chemical pulps, mechanical pulps and recycled pulps.

Recycled Fibre Processing

  • Ozone treatment
Ozone can bleach recycled paper pulps and reduce the optical brighteners they may contain.

Air Liquide has developed the REDOXAL process, which combines the use of ozone with other bleaching products, such as hydrogen peroxide, and considerably improves whiteness at lower cost.

On-Site Ozone and Oxygen Production
Air Liquide can provide its customers with the on-site production of the industrial gases they require for their processes. On-site production is particularly economical.

To produce the oxygen required to feed the ozonator for ozone manufacture, we can install cutting-edge oxygen production units designed and built by Air Liquide.

Other Applications

  • Black liquor oxidation
Using oxygen for oxidation reduces cost and improves equipment reliability.
  • White liquor oxidation provides low-cost alkali which is used for oxygen delignification or during the extraction process.
  • Effluent treatment
  • Ph control with CO2
  • Tall oil acidification with CO2, which replaces the sulphuric acid traditionally used and improves the plant's sodium/sulphide ratio.
