Best Practice GuidanceThe London Plan provides the Mayor's strategic planning framework. The Mayor is producing more detailed strategic guidance on issues which cannot be addressed in sufficient detail in the plan through Best Practice Guidance (BPG) and Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) documents. They are initially published in draft for consultation. Printed copies, alternative formats/languages Published BPG documentsThe following BPGs are available for download:
BPG publication schedule
Urban Design Principles and Public Realm Strategy The Mayor will work with strategic partners to develop a coherent and strategic approach to the public realm. Boroughs should develop local objectives and implementation programmes for their public realm. In doing so they should involve stakeholders, including their local communities. Travel Plans The Mayor will, in collaboration with strategic partners, produce additional guidance to boroughs on preparing Travel Plans. London Regional Sports Facilities London needs to develop a wide range of high quality but affordable
sports facilities, which are accessible to all sections of the community,
including disabled people. The boroughs’ audits of existing provision
and assessments of needs, required by PPG17, will ensure that new provision
is focused in areas with the greatest need and co-ordinated across boundaries.
Development of sports facilities in commercial schemes should be encouraged
and made accessible to the local community where possible.
In collaboration with boroughs, the Mayor will prepare good practice
guidance on protecting and enhancing London's regional sports facilities.
