The Monkees
The Monkees

Created at the height of the British invasion, they were chosen from
several hundred who answered a call for a new television series
featuring an American version of the Beatles.

The television show “the Monkees” debuted on NBC-TV
in the fall of 1966, starring David Thomas (Davy) Jones, George
Michael “Micky) Dolenz Jr., Robert Michael (Mike) Nesmith and
Peter Halsten Thorkelson, known as Peter Tork.

At the same time “Last Train To Clarksville” vaulted to the
top of the Hit Parade. It was followed with another chart topper,
“I’m A Believer.” In 1967, “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” and
"Pleasant Valley Sunday” were million sellers with
“Daydream Believer” and “Valieri” topping the chart at years end.

With four albums reaching the #1 spot and rampant fan hysteria
as they toured, the Monkees in 1967 captured the attention of the world
and in the years since, would continue too via TV syndication.

The Monkees received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989.
