One Of The Boys : Katy Perry : Review : Rolling Stone

"I hope you hang yourself with your H&M; scarf/While jacking off listening to Mozart," Katy Perry tells her metrosexual ex on "Ur So Gay." Risqué words, coming from the daughter of two Christian pastors who only let her listen to gospel tunes as a kid. Now 23, the L.A. singer bucks the WWJD'ers with a debut full of mall-punky, grrrl-power tunes produced by Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette) and Dr. Luke (Avril Lavigne). But her attention-grabbing doesn't feel very rebellious: On the New Wave-y club single "I Kissed a Girl" — a vanilla recounting of her chick-on-chick exploits — she sounds like the type who makes out with her BFF just to get a dude's attention. And when she's not acting out, she's a total snooze. "Mannequin," a lament about a guy who's too stoic ("You're not a man, you're just a mannequin!"), recalls Cher's Eighties catalog. And the acoustic ode "Thinking of You," which compares an unrequited lover to "an Indian summer in the middle of winter," is generic Dawson's Creek schlock. Yes, Perry has a heart, but it sounds like her bustier's too tight for her to use it.

I am a Katy Perry fan. I was hooked on UR so gay and I love all the rest too. Her album is chock full of sassy pop goodness and she has no where to go but up. So, don't listen to this reviewer because she really doesn't know what she's talking about. And she obviously didn't do her homework. Katy said in a interview from the zootopia show that I Kissed A Girl wasn't from personal experience.

Kitty Purry is amazing! :) I've been waiting for this album to drop and I really don't see myself being disappointed at all. I think that it will add a lot to the current music scene which is lacking personality.

Katy Perry and her CD are awesome and whoever wrote this is just jealous. Katy brings something new to the music industry that has been missing for years: intelligence. Plus she's from SB. REPRESENT

Ha!! Sounds like Katy touched a nerve with this writer. Hmmmm. Perhaps RS should invest on hiring reviewers who can be objective rather than reactive. I think Nicole's review of "One of the Boys" was more about HER than it was about KATY PERRY.

What kind of stupid review is this? Katy's CD is full of attitude (and she can be vulnerable, too,) and is a pop/rock gem! Perfect for summer.
