Dr. Russell is Professor of National Security Affairs at the National Defense University's Near East and South Asia Center for Strategic Studies and Adjunct Associate Professor of Security Studies at Georgetown University. He previously served as a political-military analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency. Russell's most recent book is Weapons Proliferation and War in the Greater Middle East: Strategic Contest (Routledge, 2005). He has been interviewed by National Public Radio, ABC News, and CNN and his analysis has appeared in leading publications to include the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Washington Times, The New Republic, The Weekly Standard, and U.S. News & World Report. Russell holds a Ph.D. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
