Mr. Murphy is the Hasib J. Sabbagh Senior Fellow for the Middle East at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. His past experience includes: Career Ambassador at the U.S. Foreign Service, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs, U.S. Ambassador to Mauritania, Syria, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia. He holds honorary doctorates from New England College and Baltimore Hebrew University.
