Ms. Kessler was with the Central Intelligence Agency from 1970 to 2000 working on the Middle East and South Asia. She has held positions throughout the Directorate of Intelligence and served three tours in the intelligence community's National Intelligence Council. Ms. Kessler was a Senior Fellow at the National Defense University, where she published Syria: A Fragile Mosaic of Power in 1987. Ms. Kessler was also a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution, where she produced various studies on Syria and the Middle East peace process, published in Middle East Policy. Since her retirement, she has consulted to the CIA, FBI, and the Department for Homeland Security on Middle East and other analytic issues. Ms. Kessler is currently working with the Director of National Intelligence.
