NEW DELHI: Eight people were injured,
including four from the same family, after an overspeeding Wagon R collided with
a call centre Innova car early Monday morning. According to the police, the
incident occurred near the Gyarah Murti Marg opposite gate number 28 of the
Rashtrapati Bhavan. The injured were taken to Ram Monohar Lohia Hospital from
where six of them were discharged after initial treatment. Two others, however,
were untraceable after a couple of hours.
The police said that the
incident occurred when the Jain family was going to the New Delhi station in
their Wagon R. Deepak Jain was driving the car while his wife Shobha Jain (32)
and children Prachi (12) and Akhat (8) were accompanying him. The Innova car was
coming from the Dhaula Kuan side. Around 4.45 am, the two cars collided. While
Prachi’s right forearm was fractured, Deepak managed to escape with a hip
dislocation, said RML chief medical officer S K Sharma. However, they could not
be traced by the hospital later in the day.
Police has registered a
case of rash and negligent driving. "We will be taking the help of the cameras
placed on the roads to ascertain who was at fault. We will take action
accordingly. It occurred due to overtaking and overspeeding. We are
investigating the case," said a senior police officer.
