Nominees for President and First Vice-President

REVISED NEWS RELEASE

Office of the Secretary
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
March 28, 2007

The nominations process to determine the slates of candidates for the elections of President and First Vice-President by the Synod’s 2007 convention has been completed. The Bylaws of the Synod require the Secretary to report the names and tallies of all ordained ministers who received nominating votes in the Convention Workbook. The Commission on Constitutional Matters has opined (Opinion 00-2222) that the Bylaws do not prohibit prior dissemination, leaving the matter “to the discretion of the Secretary of the Synod.”

Given the high level of interest in the names and vote tallies of these candidates, this information is being released at this time.

The candidates for President in the order of votes received are:

Gerald B. Kieschnick
John C. Wohlrabe Jr.
Wallace R. Schulz
William R. Diekelman
Daniel Preus

The process for determining the names of the candidates for the remaining vice-president positions (two through five) has not been completed. This information will be released at a later time.
