As Lutherans we love our neighbors as ourselves, just as Jesus Christ loved us. Lutheran Housing Support, established by LCMS World Relief and Human Care, provides Lutherans with the opportunity to take loving action by showing Christ's mercy to those less fortunate.

When nine-year-old Temaine of Brooklyn, New York, was faced with an impoverished and decaying neighborhood, his family received care and safety through the partnership of local Lutheran congregations and the Nehemiah Plan. "What a different life it can bring to you when you're in your own home," says Temaine. In fact, more than 2,900 families in Brooklyn alone have received an affordable home and a safer neighborhood through this effort.

Lutheran Housing Support uses this same model for faith-based neighborhood renewal all over the United States and the world. We are making a difference in the lives of children and families by working with Lutheran Churches in ravaged, destroyed neighborhoods, to be sure than children have a safe place to go to sleep at night. When we promote home ownership for the working poor, lives and neighborhoods are being changed. One neighborhood, one home, one child at a time—we are loving our neighbors as ourselves.
