any help on getting a 8 year old to stop sucking her fingers?

It is hard she only does it at night when she is asleep or when she is watching tv with her blanket.

If it's only when she's asleep, or when she's watching TV, I'd let it go. It's probably a comfort thing anyway. Eventually, it might fade, or she'll learn to control it to when she's scared or simply concentrating.

I am 25, and I still chew my fingers when I'm tense, nervous, or concentrating. Why? I don't know. But I do know that the more people (especially my siblings), pointed it out and told me not to, the harder it was not to.

Leave her alone, ignore it, and it might go away. Eventually she'll learn the self control she needs to not do it around those who might make fun of her for it.

P.S. I've never had braces, don't need them. I think chewing/sucking fingers can be less of a harm to the teeth than chewing gum, because it spends less time in your mouth.

a dental appliance. I had one put into my 4 year old's mouth so she couldn't close her mouth to suck if her thumb was in there too. It caused her no pain and broke the habit. My mom tried the socks, paints, etc on me when I was a child. Nothing worked. So for my own kid, I went straight for the big guns (dentist) so it wouldn't become a power struggle.

My older sister did that, but my mom stoped it before she got that old, but she taped a sock to her hand at night so she couldn't suck her fingers.
