I taught my girls to swim when they were 6months...it is a GREAT idea...simply call your local YMCA they usually offer Mommy/Babes swim sessions...watch your local newspaper they usually have publishings for the same! DO indeed follow through with the swim classes you will glad you did...As far as the underwater scene...NO MOTHER likes that part, but where I took my girls, they put all moms in a circle with babies, on cue we passed each baby to the next Mom underwater...believe me, you WILL get that baby, cause you DO want the other Mom to get your baby...Moms share a common ground here...you will see! Good luck!

Where I am on the East Coast the YMCA calls the class parent/tot and the name is Kippers or for slightly older pike with parent.

It doesnt really have a fancy name...other than swim class or swim class for toddlers....i know you might be afraid for your little one to go underneath but trust me it wont hurt....i was dunking my son under water when he was very litte....just a kwik dunk....anyways just try looking up like learn to swim or pediatric water therapy....hope this helps...

i live in Scotland and my daughter has had regular classes since 6 months old, well worth it her classes are called tadpoles, then it is ducklings, frogs, then sharks . Well worth doing so would get your child in now, if it's anything like scotland theres normally a very long waiting list
