ExxonMobil’s Michael F. Henderek Named Vice Chairman
of National Safety Council Board of Directors

Chicago, IL – The National Safety Council announced the election of Michael F. Henderek to the position of Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors during the Council’s 95th Annual Congress & Expo being held here.

Henderek, safety program manager for Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil Corporation, will serve a two-year term on the Council’s principal governing body providing oversight of fiduciary and strategic affairs. As the newly-elected vice chairman of the Board of Directors, Henderek assumes chairmanship of the Council’s 60-member Board of Delegates.

“Mike’s global experience and expertise bring invaluable perspective and insight to our global safety, health and environmental initiatives,” said Alan C. McMillan. “His leadership skills and knowledge of the industry will be instrumental in his board responsibilities.”

In 2002, Henderek joined the National Safety Council’s Board of Delegates, which provides direction to the Council on safety and health policy issues. In 2005, he was elected to the Council’s Board of Directors and appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees, which oversees the NSC’s development and fundraising activities.

In 2002, Henderek was instrumental in securing ExxonMobil’s support to establish the Robert W. Campbell Award, an international program that recognizes corporate safety, health and environmental excellence. Henderek continues to serve as an executive committee member of the National Safety Council’s Robert W. Campbell Award.

Henderek received his BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He began his career with ExxonMobil at its Research and Engineering Company and has held various technical and management positions in different ExxonMobil affiliates, including vice president for International Polyolefins Operations with Exxon Chemical Company, and president of Exxon China Petroleum and Petrochemical Company, Ltd.

Joseph J. Ucciferro, president and CEO of Philadelphia-based Day & Zimmermann’s Commercial and Public Sector, was also elected to a two-year term as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Safety Council at the group’s annual meeting.

The National Safety Council is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, international public service organization dedicated to educating and influencing people to prevent accidental injuries and deaths. Members of the NSC include more than 50,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals. Founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the primary focus of the NSC is promoting safety and health in the workplace, in transportation, and in homes and communities.
