Following in the footsteps of Coruscant and the Core Worlds, this book provides an excellent source of information for players and game masters who are adventuring in the fringes of known space.
From the back cover:
“Countless inhabitable worlds are scattered throughout the farthest reaches of the galaxy, each one home to its own secrets and surprises. From the droid factory on Geonosis and the cloning facilities on Kamino to the floating rock garden of Ryloth and the spice mines of Kessel, an endless variety of adventures, opportunities, and other entanglements await in the Outer Rim.”
Like its predecessor, Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds contains detailed descriptions of over two dozen planets, their history, people, and places. It is an invaluable buy for any GM who needs some new ideas, plots, and the like, or just simply would like to spend less time world building.
The planets themselves are very creatively fleshed out, with many of the planets coming from the Star Wars movies and books. The standard template for the planets includes the planet type (terrestrial, gas giant, etc.), climate, terrain, atmosphere, gravity, diameter, length of day, length of year, sentient species, languages, population, species mix, government, major exports, major imports, system/star, and a list of the other planets in its system. There is a description of the planet in general, which includes a little about the culture, flora and fauna, and some information on the star system. Next is the history section, which gives a detailed look at the world from the Old Republic era to the New Republic era. The people section details the culture and people of the world, and the locations section gives several major locations that might be of use to an adventuring party (universities, major cities, libraries, natural phenomena, etc.). Next comes the technology section, where any new vehicles, equipment, or starships would be located. Lastly, the 'For the GM' section includes adventure and plot ideas, various allies and antagonists, and new species and creatures if appropriate.
Overall, there are over 85 new GM characters, 15 new species, 6 new pieces of equipment, 10 new vehicles, 1 new starship, 28 new creatures, and a new droid. These are used to flesh out the various worlds and places, and work together excellently.
In conclusion,
This is a great addition to any Star Wars campaign, and I recommend it, although it is a little pricey.
