Important Notes:

  • There are lots of unusual spellings employed by the census enumerators and transcribers are to type what they see - so be creative in your searchers. Don't be afraid to use the search tool to locate village names. It may not work at the National Archives website - but should here if the village records have been transcribed already. As of August 1, 2003 - 180,000 records searchable from this site.
  • Automated Genealogy has now chosen to establish another location where some transcriptions are being held. Those or any records housed on non-AFHS websites cannot be searched using our search tool.
  • The links in this website to the images of the 1906 Census are limited to those available at the National Archives website. We have learned that the microfilms (available for instance at the main Calgary Public Library branch) at times may contain more images than are available online.

The Districts

Following are the Districts of the 1906 Census. Links are to pages on the AFHS website which contain detailed descriptions of the districts & subdistricts, links to the National Archives of Canada website images (often of 2 pages), and links to transcribed pages online. Please review the abbreviations used in the transcriptions found on the AFHS website.
