The Miracle of Consumer Capitalism
It’s Budget Day in the UK!
And we await the Chancellor’s speech with considerable trepidation it must be said. Economic stability is a distant memory. My house is still on the market, with little sign of anyone making a sensible bid for it. Last summer, a house two doors up went to sealed bids within three weeks of going on the market - and sold for more than £200,000 above the original asking price. The estate agents now report that there’s plenty of interest but everyone is terrified of taking on more financial risk than they feel they can realistically manage. Everyone’s tightening their belt. Bad news for me!
So time for a little break from all this doom and gloom. My student son sends me this – his university friends tell him that the main character reminds them of him! They have a point…he’s studying economics and does have a tendency to launch into monologues about economic stability, interest rates, growth.........Reality calling
