Peter Hendy, Commissioner

Peter Hendy, Commissioner, ChairPeter Hendy was appointed Commissioner in 2006, having previously served as TfL's Managing Director of Surface Transport. He was formerly Deputy Director UK Bus for FirstGroup and previously served as MD of CentreWest Buses, managing it in London Transport ownership, leading it through a management buyout with staff involvement and subsequent expansion. He started his transport career in 1975 as an LT Graduate trainee. Peter is also Chair of the Commission for Integrated Transport.

David Brown
Managing Director, Surface Transport

David Brown, Managing Director, Surface TransportDavid Brown joined TfL in 2006. He has over 20 years'transport experience, having started his career as an LT trainee in 1983. Prior to joining TfL, he served as CEO for bus operators London Central and London General. He is responsible for London Buses, Street Management, the Congestion Charge, taxi management, London Trams, Dial-a-Ride, London River Services and Victoria Coach Station. David Brown also represents TfL's corporate interest in transport policing and enforcement.

Ian Brown, Managing Director, London Rail

Ian Brown, Managing Director, London RailIan Brown joined TfL in 2001. He is responsible for overseeing major rail projects in London and implementing the Mayor's strategy to integrate National Rail services with London's transport network. He is also chairman, and was previously chief executive, of DLR. During a period of major expansion, he was appointed to franchise its operation and run DLR as the asset-owning company. He has an extensive background in the rail industry.

Howard Carter, General Counsel

Howard Carter, General CounselHoward Carter joined TfL in September 2006 having been Head of Legal and Procurement at the GLA since 2001. He was previously Director of Legal and Secretariat at English Heritage and has worked in local government. He is a barrister with wide experience of managing legal, secretariat and corporate governance functions. His duties include legal, corporate governance, information access and compliance, audit and health, safety and environment.

Tim O'Toole, Managing Director, London Underground

Tim O'Toole, Managing Director, London UndergroundTim O'Toole joined TfL in 2003. Prior to his appointment, he was president and chief executive of Consolidated Rail Corporation, one of America's most successful rail networks. During his 18 years with the company he worked in several senior roles, including general counsel, treasurer and chief financial officer. He was also part of the negotiating team for the company's US$10bn merger with Norfolk Southern and CSX in 1998.

Vernon Everitt, Managing Director, Marketing and Communications

Vernon EverittVernon joined TfL in 2007 as Managing Director of Group Marketing and Communications. He is responsible for TfL`s overall communications strategy, stakeholder management, marketing, media relations, market research, and the London Transport Museum. Vernon was formerly a Director of the Financial Services Authority, holding regulatory roles as well as spells as Communications Director and HR Director. He also spent 18 years at the Bank of England in a variety of roles. He is married with two children and enjoys music and football.

Valerie Todd, Managing Director, Group Services

Valerie Todd, Managing Director, Group ServicesValerie Todd joined TfL in 2003 as Director of Business Services, having previously led the implementation of public programmes at the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham and Havering. She subsequently took directorship of TfL's equality and inclusion agenda and was appointed Interim Managing Director Group Services in 2005. This was made permanent on 4 April 2007. Her remit also includes HR, Procurement, and Property and Facilities.

Steve Allen, Managing Director, Finance

Steve Allen, Managing Director, Finance Steve Allen joined TfL in 2003, and previously served as Director, Corporate Finance.  He started his career at the Department of Transport and went on to work for Citygroup and Abbey National. He is responsible for business planning and financial control of TfL's £6bn turnover and oversight of its £10bn capital investment programme, building senior-level relationships with Govenment, management of major corporate finance activity and and TfL's information management strategy. He became Managing Director, Finance on 4 April 2007.

Michèle Dix, Managing Director, Planning

Michèle Dix, Managing Director, PlanningMichèle Dix joined TfL in 2000 as Director of Congestion Charging on a job-share basis with Malcolm Murray-Clark. Michèle started her career at the GLC after her PhD and became a chartered civil engineer through their transport planning graduate scheme. She later went onto work for Halcrow Fox where she became a board director. Michèle, alongside Malcolm Murray-Clark, is responsible for leading TfL's strategic thinking on the future transport needs of London, testing and challenging solutions; providing clear direction on appropriate transport solutions for the future; coordinating the implementation of local plans and borough partnerships; and developing major  scheme interchanges and initiatives. Michèle became Managing Director, Planning on 4 June 2007.

Malcolm Murray-Clark, Managing Director, Planning

Malcolm Murray-Clark, Managing Director, PlanningMalcolm Murray-Clark joined TfL in 2000 as Director of Congestion Charging on a job-share basis with Michèle Dix. Malcolm started his career at the GLC where he became a chartered civil engineer through their scheme. He later joined Westminster Council and became its principal advisor on transport matters. Malcolm, alongside Michèle Dix, is responsible for leading TfL's strategic thinking on the future transport needs of London; testing and challenging solutions; providing clear direction on appropriate transport solutions for the future; coordinating the implementation of local plans and borough partnerships; and developing major scheme interchanges and initiatives. Malcolm became Managing Director, Planning on 4 June 2007.
