Tube safety
Stations will have at least seven help points by 2010
Safety and security is a top priority for everyone. We are improving the network to make it safer, and there are many steps you can take yourself.
What you can do
- Report any unattended bags, luggage or suspicious activity immediately to a member of staff or a Police Officer (you can use the Green Emergency button on a station Help Point to do this)
- Keep your belongings with you at all times - this helps us avoid unnecessary security alerts and delays
- Follow the instructions of staff in the event of any emergency - they are trained to keep you safe
- If you are in a train, move away from any immediate danger and await instruction from a member of staff or the emergency services
- Evacuate the station immediately when asked to do so
- Don't leave litter - use the bins provided or take it home with you
- Don't smoke anywhere on the Underground
- Don't use flash photography
What we're doing
8,000 CCTV cameras fitted to cover all stations across the Underground network. There will be 12,000 cameras by 2010 Each station will have at least seven help points by 2010. These can be used to report emergency situations or suspicious activity Working with the police, fire and ambulance services for an integrated safety approach Undertaking regular emergency exercises to continually improve our evacuation procedures
