Site upgrade

The website has been moved to a new server and the forums have been upgraded. If you notice any problems please reply to this thread.

Unfortunately the upgrade took a little longer than expected as I had to move rooms, have new carpets fitted and wait a few days for the HP drive caddies to arrive for the new server which, all combined, caused me to miss my window for replacing the server at the data center.

Debug and Beta versions

A new debug build, v0.3.158, is available via the #HydraIRC channel on EFNet - irc://irc.efnet.net/#hydrairc.

There is one critical bug fixed (the DCC crash bug) as well as a few new features (like /timer). Drop by the channel, download it and let us know if you have any problems. I plan to release a new stable version on the website in a week after I've received feedback from enough users telling me that the debug build works ok for them.

As a side note v0.3.158 is the first version to be compiled with Visual Studio .net 2005 with Service Pack 1 which hopefully fixes some long-standing CAtlRegExp bugs (in Microsoft's code, not mine).

If you're waiting for your developer request to be approved please contact me and let me know the details you used when you applied and I'll take a look at your request.

Got a HydraIRC crashing problem?

A bug has been found in the DCC transfer disconnect code that can cause HydraIRC to crash if a malicious users sends an specially formatted DCC command to you. The bug has been fixed and a new version will be released soon but there are some other issues that need to be resolved before an update can be released.

In the mean time disable dcc auto accept (in prefs/misc) and don't cancel any 0 byte pending file transfers.

As an aside if you find issues with HydraIRC please ensure you follow the correct bug reporting procedure and don't just bitch and moan in the irc channel that your bug has not been fixed.

I always try and fix crash bugs as soon as I'm notified. If you've posted a bug report and no reply has been received (maybe because I'm away, busy or whatever) then follow it up a few days later with an email or PM me directly or any other op who can relay the information to me. Don't get angry and assume know-one cares, don't expect miracles and please try to remember that we're not some giant corporation that has infinite amouts of money and resources which can be used to attend to your every need.

Also, don't forget that you can donate! Donations really help spur on development and are always gratefully received!

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind existing users that this is the first time in five years any security issues have been identified by a third party and that's not forgetting that the source code is available to anyone who wants to see it via doxygen (see irc channel for details). Patches and recommendations for security issues are always welcomed!

Progress Report

Just to let you all know the source code for HydraIRC has been recently uploaded to SVN. It includes a few patches submitted by other developers and also upgrades the WTL version to 7.5 Final. If you want to try a new build pop over to the #HydraIRC channel on EFNet and download the latest build using the channel triggers.

HydraIRC v0.3.151 has arrived!

Progress on HydraIRC has been slow over the last year due to several reasons, the main one being lack of time. Excelsior has yet to finish up the ssl/ipv6 code, he also suffers from lack of time. A few other developers have submitted patches to me for some new fixes and features and those will be patched in to HydraIRC v0.3.152 in the near future. The SVN tree has (finally) been updated to the 0.3.151 codebase too.

This is a minor upgrade from the last version that was released on the web site, please be sure to read through the changes to find out what's new.

Remember - If you like HydraIRC then please donate using the links provided on the download page and on the main site index.

Progress Report

Just a quick note in case all of you are wondering what's happening with HydraIRC recently.

I've been waiting to get my XP64 system up and running (which it now is) so that I can start work on the 0.4 core which will be 32/64 bit and will support unicode and will be written in VS.net 2005.

The v0.3.148 codebase is waiting for excelsior to get back to me so we can include and finalize the sll and ipv6 support he's coded in.

Current Status

Ok, so you've probably all been wondering why there's been no HydraIRC updates for a while, no it's not because I've given up development or anything silly like that, it's just that I've had lots of other commitments recently, such as work (bah!), girlfriends (bah!), scalextric (cool!) and my trusty xbox. That and it's summer over here in England at the moment which means I (hehe, of all people) am less inclined to sit in front of my PC all day.

Version 0.3.136 is available from here, but it's not an official public release, it's a test version - although it's a very stable test version and comes highly recommended.

As always you can get these new test versions as they appear straight from the official HydraIRC channel on efnet: irc://irc.efnet.net/HydraIRC and type in "lastupdate?" to the channel (without quotes).

Also, a quick note to those people who've donated - THANK YOU!!!!

HydraIRC donations!

Many freeware applications these days seem to have the facility to donate money to their authors so that they have more time and inclination to keep developing the software that they write. To this end I have also setup facilities for donating funds to the HydraIRC project.

Make your donation here! via PayPal or NoChex (preferred)

Donating will enable me to spend more time writing HydraIRC as I won't have to work as much!

Donated funds go towards such things as domain hosting, web hosting, pc hardware and software, programming books, keeping a roof over my head, putting food on my table, and maybe the odd Lego toy. wink.gif

HydraIRC 0.3.113 has Arrived!

Ok, major upgrade, versions since 0.3.08* had a crashbug which i accidentally reintroduced when i reinstalled my machine a while ago (modified header file got replaced with an unfixed unmodified one), this crash would happen when regexp's (highlighting) and high-ascii characters were used.

This is now fixed and HydraIRC is stable once more, sorry about that.

This version brings along lots of new GUI features and lots long-outstanding bug fixes too

I'll update the screenshots soon!

As usual see the changes.txt on the downloads page for the full details.

Thanksgiving information update!

Many thanks to all the people who have signed up for developer access to the source, as I thought would happen only one or two people have actually helped out with coding out of all the applicants. Still, I need lots of help so it's all good. Those that are still waiting for access to the source please be patient. Your requests will be approvied or denied soon.

I don't currently have an internet connection (due to an issue with my flatmates not paying the god-damn phone bill) so I'm unable to hang out in the IRC channel (#HydraIRC on EFNet) at the moment. I re-ordered an ADSL service today, so hopefully I'll be back on-line in about a week or so.

In the mean time I'm celebrating thanks-giving with my new American g/f (Happy thanks-giving all you Americans!) I'm English and live in England so don't normally celebrate this particular event, but it should proove interesting as we're having a big meal tomorrow, turkey, ham, pumpkin pie and everything!

Hopefully, being unable to move around after such a large meal will mean I'm sat in-front of my computer coding away at HydraIRC! See, there was a point to all these ramblings after all..

Developer/Source access ready!

We're now accepting requests for developer access to the source!

If you want the source code head on over to the Developers page and read it, then fill in the two forms (the first to create a HydraIRC.com account, the second to request developer status).

Many many thanks to imajes for providing the svn, mysql, web services and some server troubleshooting and advice and also just for being such a nice lovely chappie!

Sorry getting this sorted has taken so long, but I've been a busy man!

Source Code Status Update

Just to let you all know that things are progressing nicely with regards to making the source available again.

The SVN server is all set up now, thanks to Imajes, and I now have the know-how to add users to it (As access to the source is not anonymous).

For those wondering here's the plan:

1) create a hydrairc.com website account registration form (already half done, see the community page for details)
2) create a request developer status page that will allow you to request to become an official hydrairc developer - or just access the source so you can create your plugins.
3) i then will process these requests and sign people up to a developers mailing list and give them access to the source code via the SVN server.

Currently I've still got quite a bit of php coding to do to allow me to automate most of this (as I don't want to be responding to e-mail and irc requests for the source) which will then enable me to get on with coding HydraIRC.

Speaking of which, I've updated the SVN tree to 0.3.092 and test builds are available from #HydraIRC on EFNet as always.

HydraIRC's gets a new website!

Ok, so fair enough, I should be coding on HydraIRC instead of creating this wonderful new website for you all!

This website represents HydraIRC's professional sleek image as the new IRC client of choice, I hope you all agree with me that this new website rocks!

Don't forget to grab the recently released HydraIRC v0.3.090 from the downloads page.
