Family Histories

The AFHS library is located at 712 - 16th Avenue NW , Calgary, Alberta and is open to the public as a reference library. Members may take most items out on loan for one month, after which an overdue fee of $1.00/month is levied. Non-members may use the library during its open hours.

The library is open frequently every month except July/August. See AFHS Calendar for details. During the summer months, access can be arranged on an appointment basis. Please contact the to make those arrangements.

The library contains about 10,000 documents, including family history journals/newsletters, books, reference books, maps, and microfiche. The collection is broad, but does have an emphasis on materials pertaining to Alberta, the United Kingdom, and the rest of Canada.

We're working on a good listing of the family histories that we have on our shelves. The online list is a bit incomplete at this time; but check back and we'll put the information online in better form. Please use your browser's find feature (usually Ctrl+F) to determine if a particular surname appears in the list.
