Newspaper Announcements

The data from 1883-1889 were extracted by Gordon McMahon while the data from 1890-1899 were extracted by a number of volunteers who were coordinated by Nancy Cunningham. They certainly are to be thanked for their hard work in reviewing and documenting the old newspapers, but also in preparing electronic copy for this website.

While this data originally was maintained in a single file, it has been broken up for speedier access in an internet environment. Simply click on the appropriate letter for the surname you are pursuing, in the appropriate column of: Births, Marriages, or Deaths.

Disclaimer

As in any transcription, there may be errors, so all data retrieved from this site should be considered tentatively until confirmed with personal viewing of the microfilm copies of the identified newspaper or with other, primary documentation (e.g. first-hand accounts or copies of records that registered these events with church or government).

The AFHS is constantly building its collection of genealogically-relevant data sources and welcomes contributions or suggestions of projects that could be undertaken. This is the opening page to our online collection of transcribed Birth, Marriage and Death Announcements. Some of these are also available in print. See our Publications page for information about those.

See our Data Projects page for other transcription projects that are available online and in print.
