Online accessibility for people with disabilities

The Disability Discrimination Act, 1992 (DDA) requires that universities provide educational services in an accessible manner. At La Trobe a Disability Action Plan is currently in development. This will include details about online accessibility.

To meet its obligations under the DDA, the AVCC has developed Guidelines on Information Access for Students with Print Disabilities (Word doc).

It is estimated that there are more than 3% of Australians who are blind, vision-impaired or have another form of print disability. These guidelines state that there is a continuing increase of students who require information in an alternative format.

The requirements of the DDA apply equally to staff and students of the University. It is important that all staff be aware of the information contained in these guidelines.
