Cultural Studies: Information for current Honours students

Attendance

ALL Tutorials in the School of Culture and Communication for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students and classes for 4th year students begin in the FIRST WEEK of semester.

The only exception is Media and Communications, where all lectures and seminars begin in the first week of semester and tutorials for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students begin in the second week of semester.

Attendance at lectures and participation in tutorials is expected in all subjects.

Enquiries and administration

The School of Culture and Communication General Office is located in Rm 216, West Tower, John Medley Building. The normal hours of opening are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The office staff are able to offer you assistance in relation to the availability of academic staff, appointments to see the Head of School, and general University and School of Culture and Communication information.

Essays and assignments

Essay cover sheet [PDF]

All essays submitted for assessment must have a cover-sheet attached and be placed in the essay box located outside the General Office. Your essays will be date-stamped and given to your tutor. Please do not put essays under office doors. Always keep a copy of your work.

Essays and assignments submitted during the semester will be returned to you directly by your tutor. Those submitted at the end of each semester will not be returned unless you provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope at the time of submission.

Extensions

Application for extension [PDF]

If you require an extension for work submitted for assessment this should be arranged with your tutor well in advance of the due date.

Extensions for final assessment may only be considered once the formal Special Consideration application has been lodged online via the SIS. Applications must be accompanied by the required supporting documentation.

Noticeboards

You should check the noticeboards located on the 2nd Floor, West Tower, John Medley Building, and in the Elisabeth Murdoch Building, for specific information about your subject area. Such information includes the time and location of lectures in each of the subjects.

Reading lists and additional reading materials

Reading lists and other subject hand-outs will be distributed at lectures and tutorials. If you do not receive copies you should contact your tutor. Subject readers are available for sale at the University Bookshop at the start of each semester.

Most reading materials for tutorials and essays will be available from the Reserve Section of the Baillieu Library. Please contact your tutor as early as possible if you encounter difficulties in obtaining the necessary reading material.
